Seems like since we're only a couple weeks out from the original estimated ship date we're due for another status update. I'm starting to get a bit antsy as the fated day approaches.
p.s. I still don't even see support for this merged into the qmk master branch yet. When is that merge gonna happen? Does Massdrop have a repo of their qmk fork that's accessible to clone?

pandasgorawrI've bought quite a few things from Massdrop, and have never had a bad experience except with keyboards. Every keyboard drop I've been in on has been delayed or shipped with incorrect parts (misprinted keycaps, wrong switches, etc.).

chucktdriscollI think 60-70% of the drops I've participated in have been delayed. 1 drop got flat out cancelled on me because they ordered the wrong number of items and ran out. I've just come to expect that something or another will go wrong. MD needs to learn how to build in buffer time in their delivery estimates to anticipate things not moving smoothly...

pandasgorawrThey do that already. These slow-burn group buys are their entire business model. It's just sometimes the estimates were off or circumstances pushed fulfillment outside of the expected (padded) delivery window. I can't explain why this phenomenon is exaggerated with keyboards but it definitely is. Also, making new physical products is incredibly hard. /shrug

Datait makes sense why it happens with keyboards. Stuff like knives, headphones, clothes, etc., these have FAR fewer pieces per product that needs to be QCed. Keyboards are very complex pieces of equipment, if there isn't an extremely regimented and time-tested QC line (as there often can't be with stuff that is custom made in small batches), stuff will fall through the cracks just as a matter of statistics.

DRaGZYeah, but they know that and one would assume they'd account for it. Also, they touted the improvements they've made to their processes for this very drop, and yet, once again, it's delayed. I'm not terribly butthurt as the delay is fairly minor this time (assuming the new estimate is accurate), it's just frustrating that it's literally every keyboard drop (at least every one I've been on). I'd think they would have learned to pad the estimate more or, better yet, come up with better production and QC processes (and enforce them).

Eagle1337eh, could be that units were found to not meet a quality requirement and shipment was delayed for rework. But yeah, I should have added 'logistics processes' to the things that should be improved.
