I was looking to upgrade to some solid IEMs in the $150 to $250 range. Although a bit beyond that, I looked into these. But instead I opted for the FH5 ($199 on Amazon a couple weeks ago) and I'm loving every note.

WordsandMusicI'm waiting for the demo units to arrive at my local audio stores. I did see some reviews saying the original FH5 sounds better though. Did you have a chance to try the FH5s or you opt for FH5 because it's cheaper?

PotatoRawrI did not have a chance to demo the FH5. The irony (I guess it's irony) is that I had them on an Amazon wish list for more than 2 years...thought they were out of reach and maybe overpriced. It was sheer coincidence that when I was looking for something in that price range, they were $199 instead of the $259 I always saw. So, I would say price had an impact. And they just looked so damn good, including the product bundle (not sure how logical it is to buy IEMs based on looks).
I saw the first FH5s review on Head-Fi that wasn't too encouraging. It was 3.5 stars, whereas the FH5 has an aggregate 4.58 rating there (19 reviews). On the other hand...that was one review, and there have been two more since, a 4.5 star and a 5 star.
Still...I think the FH5 are better suited to my music. The first week, the right unit would not sit comfortably. It felt like there was an edge pushing against the upper, outer edge of the canal. There is in fact a sharpish edge on the line from the cable port to the nozzle, but for some reason it has felt much more comfortable the last week. As I explore more of my library with them, or sample things on Amazon Music HD, I'm extremely impressed and even awed.

WordsandMusicI see. I personally got the FH5 too, sound is good but I feel it doesn't really sit that well in my ears.

PotatoRawrIt's a struggle...for my right ear, anyway. My left ear never has an issue.

WordsandMusicI got these too because I saw them for $199 on Guitar Center. I was interested in FH5s but noticed them after I bought OG FH5 and some reviews on YouTube weren’t encouraging.
Do you only listen to them using DAP or DAC with your smartphone on the go or do you use built-in headphone jack or simple Apple/Android DAC dongle? I fought connected using Apple lightening to 3.5mm DAC adapter they sound good but they are loud enough at 1 volume click and volume range does not scale well, at 2-3 clicks they are pretty loud.

domini6981I'm listening to the FH5 either with the Earstudio Radsone DAC/Amp or my desktop Monolith dual DAC/dual THX amp. I wouldn't say I've maxed, or attempted to max, the volume, but I've given them plenty of juice and they handle it well. I suppose there are better (more expensive) IEMs you can find, but I don't expect to buy any after these. I'm convinced...when at home, I'm even giving them more time than my HD6XX, which are more comfortable.
