MrMackeyEverything says it is a single ended, SE tube amp, not a hybrid. Not many details, esp. about the transformers,, as you see in the APPJ being Japan sourced Z11 steel: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/appj-1502a-tube-headphone-amplifier & https://www.aliexpress.com/item/APPJ-PA1502A-pure-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier-HIFI-EXQUIS-6n4-6P6P-lamp-headset-amps/32344564558.html I have one of these PA1052A's with upgraded caps and NOS tubes that provides excellent sound. The FX P1 should provide you with the Tube experience, though the tubes usually supplied, are not the best ones to judge tubes on... to be fair you should look at replacing them with some NOS ones. This amp does have MM phono input and speaker outputs, leaning it towards a simplified Phono TT/Tube/speaker setup. Oh, tubes are happier fully inserted and perpendicular.

MrMackeyget the dark voice, it just dropped again. plus 1/2 off tube rolling since it only has two tubes instead of the need to get two matched tubes (preamp/power tubes). its a dedicated headphone amp w/ preamp outputs. ive never used this P1 amp, but i know the dark voice is very popular with the headphone community especially with high impedance headphones (150/300/600 ohm) such as the hd6xx/hd58x. i love mine. unless you want to power speakers/use a turntable too.

DavestefI second the Dark Voice. Like it the way I received. Love it after I swapped out the stock tubes. I never have to drive my OTL Dark Voice pass 10 o'clock. You can tailor the way it sounds to your taste by swapping the tubes.

andrewdoanI got 2 DV's! For headphones like the Senn 6XX it is hard to beat that combo. But for driving some regular speakers this P1 look to be good! I got some socket adapters to run 6AQ5/6005's instead of the P1's. The 6AQ5 is a 6V6's guts put in a 7 pin tube. I really like the sound of 6V6's & 6AQ5s! I have plenty of premium 6AK5s & 6AQ5s. The adapters cost me $10 a piece delivered. They are already here with 6AQ5s in them ready to go. I hope they ship these soon!

Thrift_First_Retail_Last I am a audio junkie so I collect quite a bit of SS and tube amps. The Little Dot Mk II is half the price and it gets some power ( headroom) not quite as the DV but enough for the HD600/650. Tubes rolling can be done too not as my Schiit Vahalla. Even with stock tubes, depends from the vendor(s) if you're lucky as I do with my second LDMK II, GE tubes are punchy and warm , I don't have no need to upgrade to the LD MK III and newer models.

ParagliderI thought I am among the very few ppl who have OCD LOL. I also have 3 DVs not from Mass drop but from Amazon Prime. Love these DVs for the way they look and the way they sound. I ony use the DVs for occasional Jazz/ vocal listening.

andrewdoanWhy do you have 3? Do you have them all set up differently and rotate them? Or just as backups? you should check out the La Figaro. It’s like two dv’s in one.

DavestefTo back up the made-in-china products and to prolong the life of the tubes. I am just an old timer back in the day, I only buy products that's made in USA as Audio Research, Krell, Cary audio, B & K...etc. or of course the "made-in Japan ". products. Lately, I expand to the products made-in-Canada, and Malaysia. You may or may not be aware of the Adcom back in its made-in -USA golden age or the Denon and the Mazrantz ( made-in Japan) Once, Adcom, the D @ M ( Denon Marantz Holding Corp.) company moved their products lines to a small province in China, the products QC became " crap". So, I stopped to purchase any products that had a label on the back that showed " Made-in-China" In Maylaysia is another story. Company such as Onkyo already has their product lines established and their QC is much more reliable than their counter part Denon @Marantz holding products. Having said that, the made-in China products QC have improved substantially within the last decade or so but still they are still a hit and miss. Therefore, once I found a realy good " made-in China products, I always bought or will buy back up units. It's just a case of " it's hard to teach an old dog a new trick" mentality. LOL.

carlthess50https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-6AQ5-To-6P1-Vacuum-Tube-Amplifier-Convert-Socket-Adapter/283131657582 This allows you to use a 6AQ5/6005 tube to replace the 6P1. The 6P1's don't seem bad. I have a bunch of NOS 6AQ5's which is my favorite 7 pin Output tube. It is basically a 6V6 in a 7 pin bottle! Both the 6P1 and the 6AQ5 with the adapter sound about the same to me.

carlthess50The P1 is also able to be used as a guitar amp! On the Phono input it rocks, on the RCA input it stays nice and clean. This is a very versatile amp! I am pleased with how it functions as it meets all my needs in a single amp!

MrMackeyIt’s a full 100% tube amp . It has one preamp tube and one power amp tube for each channel. And you can roll the tubes to what kind of tubes you like for a different sound. I use mine on a set of Klipsch H1’s or my kg4 speakers. And with just the 2.5 watts it plays loud enough in my large 12x22 foot room that you have to yell to talk to someone it may be light on bass but it’s a pretty flat sound and it’s more like hearing a true sound and not all the eq’ing that a lot of receivers add into the sound

carlthess50Did you get the adapters? If so, which tube seems to have better Bass response to you? The 6AQ5 has pretty good, IMHO, bass response for such a little tube! ;^)

carlthess50New info, this little amp just went up in smoke. Turned it on and smoke came out from around the power tubes. Guess what, Drop will NOT give me any warranties on it even though I only got it in January of 2019. I’ll no longer buy from this company. They are on the ever growing list of companies that don’t know what customer service is. It’s more of let me get your money and kiss off
