6EQUJ5Compared to the FLC8S these have a deeper and thicker bass sound, wider taller and more spacious and wide soundstage, and rich mid's; highs on the SD3 are very clean. The sound is slightly darker and less of a balanced sound, but quite rewarding for those who enjoy a not quite neutral but almost out of your head, strong bass, type sound. Don't remember how the highs compare, outside of they are very clear and clean on the SD3, if I pull out both sets (I do own both), I'll add to the comparison. The biggest difference is the presentation, the sd-4 has out-of-the-head type of sound stage. If you enjoy a full, impactful and realistic bottom end plus a wide and open (especially for an iem) sort of soundstage then these are for you. Very few earphones in this price range handle it this well, imho. Of those earphones that I have heard, these would be rated right up there with the ASG2.5's and he ToGo334's in terms of punchy bottom end, wide soundstage, and dynamic presentation and correct timbre (granted with a degree of warmess). Hope this helps, I do think these are better all around, unless you prefer a more neutral sound.
The price of these almost gets you to a pair of nice entry level customs. I'll take my chances on sound presentation for the benefit of a perfect fit any day.
I wonder how do you decide whether you need the small version or not. There doesn't seem to be any indication on their website. I'd hate to order the regular and find I need a small!
