I'm seeing some confusion about the material in this knife and questions about the price to size ratio. This knife does not have titanium scales. It has 420 stainless steel scales. We had to do this in order to give the bearings something to ride on and maintain the thinnest material dimensions so the knife doesn't make the keybar too wide. Much of the cost of this knife comes from the pivot and standoff screws I had to design specifically for this knife to make it function as flipper and fit in the keybar. They have very tight tolerancing and maintain the dimensions in the knife so the tension on the keybar screws does not affect the action of the knife . I know it looks simple, but we spent almost a year prototyping this knife and optimizing the bearing configuration to ensure it would function as a flipper, be stable, and as robust as we could make in is such a small package.
I clip it to either my belt, or tuck it into my EDC bag, or clip it to my SCOTTeVEST. I don't like to shove it into a pants pocket as it is a bit large. If I shove my KeyBar into a front pants pocket I look as if I am trying to overcompensate for the ladies.
Ok, so my KeyBar is not quite as big as the largest Swiss Army Knife. You are correct that I carry a lot of keys. I'm usually first in the office, so I have work keys plus all of my home keys, cars, and various locks (shed, garage, patio, rear sliding door, home front door, home rear door, etc.). I am setting up another KeyBar of the keys for the RV. And another KeyBar of all of the keys that I hold for friends, such as spare car, house, garage, etc. This flipper knife will go into my largest KeyBar which is my EDC. Although I EDC a pocket knife, my EDC SCOTTeVEST has a small pocket knife in it, another knife is always handy. Never know when you might dull one knife or snap the blade in two (both have happened to me just opening boxes at work), so another handy sharp knife is a good thing.
I have way more knives than keys...🤔 Dear awesome Ferrum Forge folks: I would like a KeyBar-like device to carry and neatly organize my knives, while my keys rattle around in my pocket. I am willing to enlarge and reinforce my pockets (and, heck, the pants seem to be getting bigger these days anyways...*sigh*).
I agree that the bead-blasted finish on the scales of my Crux and Falcon show scratches and trail marks way too easily.
But so does the finish on my $400 Chris Reeve knives; it's an unfortunate characteristic of bead-blasting the Titanium scales.
Re the KB Flipper -- please show us some photos of someone holding this little guy -- thanks.
megical_bananaWhen you think about it, it is roughly the size of an old-fashioned swiss army knife. With an open design, you can add just about anything to it.
