Is this good for creating EDM/trap style music? Just beginning so not sure what I'm doing.

KeitherNo, think 70s and early 80s synth stuff. This is a 70s synthesizer that Korg has put back into production after all. Plus it's monophonic meaning it can only respond to one keypress at a time. Probably steer away from analog if you're trying to emulate mainstream electronic stuff. That said, this thing does still sound cool as hell.

BitrotWhat are you talking about? Mainstream is all about 808 & 909 drums these days, which were originally analog, last I checked. It's pure waveform analog. It can be used for whatever kind of music you want. I heard Win Butler on Song Exploder recently talk about using an MS-20 for Arcade Fire. Sure, lots of leads these days are polyphonic, but you can use these for great sounding basslines and spacey effects.
I suggest checking out some youtube videos to see how it's used and hear what kind of sounds can be made with it. If it's a sound you'd like to make, get one, if not, save your money.

KeitherStick with VSTs and get a midikeyboard. If you want a synth, get a polyphonic synth.

KeitherWhile this might not be a go-to synth for mainstream edm these days, it's an outstanding beginner synth that you should consider picking up if you're seriously interested in producing any kind of electronic music!
The hands-on 1:1 control to parameter layout will make learning how synthesis works an absolute joy, and the patch bay/cables will let you get really weird really quick once you get the basics down. Once you've moved on to more complicated instruments, the pure analog nature of this one will ensure any tracks you record have that warm & gritty soul that people will swear that software simply can't replicate. Just sample some drum noises for layering and throw a sub-bass under whatever you want. You'll have woofers dropping bottom in no time.
Maybe you'll pick it up and decide it's not your thing. It could happen. But as long as you treat the synth right, Korgs pristine reputation and massdrops pricing will make sure you recoup at least most of your loss when you turn it around on eBay.

KeitherNo, not really. If you're very good with it I'm sure you could make sounds that work, but it'll be difficult and probably frustrating for a beginner trying to achieve a specific sound. Even as a beginner though, this is a great synth to just play around with and experiment with different sounds, and it'll be a learning experience that could lead to you learning how to get what you want out of it.
