What happenned to good old wet sharpening stones and some rubber pad so they stick to the table? And btw. fine grit 800? I usually start at 1000 and finish my japanese kitchen knives at 3000 (higher grit is good only for shaving razor). But if there is different grit numbering in US and EU, correct me please.
You sharpen your knives, you friends' knives... and when you run out of knives, you sharpen your axes, your tools, your forks, your spoons, your broomstick handles, etc., etc., etc.
I own the Lansky ceramic deluxe kit and it works well for the price point. Just ordered the diamond deluxe kit also for my super steels. (From Elsewhere with faster shipping same price) The Lansky clamp systems are great for reprofiling, fixing chips, mirror edges etc. for touch ups i use a sharpmaker and leather strop. I know it wasnt your comment but Not a fan of the Worksharp electric grinder. While it will sharpen in a hurry its Not very precise and i wouldnt put my sebenza in it!
I bought this on Amazon for a similar price but with the table mount. It works fairly well for short blades but I frequently had trouble with distal tapers because the locking clamp can't adjust to them.
I've since bought a Spyderco Sharpmaker and haven't looked back. Still, if you're a pro or want professional results (half degree angles and mirrored edges) spring for a Wicked Edge WE130.
huablis04To me, not at all. I have the C-clamp mount, it might be a little more efficient, but I almost always hold the sharpener in one hand and the knife in the other, while watching YouTube.
riffrafffI also use both. The Lansky comes in when the secondary bevel doesn't suit the 20 degree set-up of the Sharpmaker. It seems to me that many knives I've tried on the Sharpmaker for the 1st time, don't pass the Sharpie Test on one side (meaning that the rod is hitting the angle between the 2 bevels and not the actual edge), and then I have to take off a lot of metal on that side with the Lansky before I can use the Sharpmaker. After that it's almost all Sharpmaker.
It seems like there are better systems for sharpening than this particular Lanskey system. Any recommendations for something like a pocket knife like crkt drifter folding knife?
Foolishrobot91I own this, and for the investment, I personally don't think it can be beat for the price/performance.
If you are just looking to put an edge on some budget folders, then don't hesitate, this works great. My Benchmade Foray has a very similar blade shape to the crkt you mentioned, and this system put a better edge on that knife than Benchmade did from the factory...
