So I have a long winded question(s) for someone more knowledgeable than myself. Do we have any mass drop members who are environmental scientists?? EPA officials? I did a little research on these brass pens several companies are machining. Apparently, the brass is usually about 60% copper, 37% zinc and 3% lead (lead allowing the brass to be machined better). These pens are raw brass, so you'll get a very, very tiny bit of lead on your fingers when using the pen. I further read touching anything more than about 0.01% lead leaves a microsopic amount of lead on your hands (lead accidentally ingested even in microscopic amounts is not considered safe). So finally my long winded question..... is there any danger in EDCing a raw brass made of 3% lead??
TheRavenMy grandparents lived through lead paint, and lack of health regulation, I think we're alright. Some people build clocks (Clickspring on YouTube) out of all brass, some apprentices make their first object/product with brass and they're all alive and healthy. I'd think so long as you don't have a health condition or rub the pen in your eyes or suck on it, you should be okay.
I know it doesn't "officially" accept Pentel Energel refills, but would they fit? They're very similar in size to G2 refills. Considering ordering one of these pens, but I want to make sure it fits my favorite ink :)
I'd love to get a response from the manufacturer, but if anyone has one of these pens and can try an Energel .7mm refill in it, that would be just as helpful. Thanks!
Mine came today. Nice finish and a strong iron smell to it. Looks and feels really good.
Unfortunately, vendor forgot to put in the ink cartridge in mine :/
erghnestWhoops, sorry to hear that your pen arrived sans ink!
Make sure to drop a note to Support through your transaction page, and we'll get an ink cartridge sent out to you.
LizAw, but it seems like such a silly idea asking for the ink cartridge seeing that shipping costs more than the ink. Would be an unnecessary waste of resources. Thanks a lot for the offer though :)
Is it just me or is the DHL service that massdrop uses just god-awful for everyone?
My package supposedly arrived at the DHL distribution center for my metro area in the early morning on Friday. Since then, it's just sat there, supposedly waiting for USPS to pick it up.
FedEx and UPS both offer similar services, where the USPS does the actual local delivery. But neither of theirs is ever this slow.
@XiKuang chance you guys are listening to our feedback on your shipping partners? DHL really isn't up to snuff, even compared to the "budget" services offered by USPS or UPS. As @Hackenslash mentioned above, this really has an outsize impact on the overall experience given that we end up waiting a while to receive drops just by the nature of the business.
Just so everyone knows, the Helpdesk got back with me, checked on the first attempted shipping, found out that it must have been lost, and has sent another pen out.
EDIT: 05/17/16 - The pen arrived Monday, 5/16.
I love the warm feel of brass, but a friction retained cap will fall off. Last year, Right Choice Painting Company offered a brass pen with screw-on cap retention. I haven't seen Right Choice stuff in awhile, but if you see one of them come up, grab it.
