Whether you’re entering large amounts of data, doing your taxes, or playing Garry’s Mod, a dedicated numpad comes in handy. This one from Magicforce features 21 keys, each of which is also backlit Read More
Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there's a ferrite bead on the numpad cable. As far as I can tell it's moulded on, so not designed to be removable. The custom-built USB cable for the keyboard doesn't, of course.
All I want is a numpad like this in kit form with multiple, programmable function layers.
I have a box of zealios and LEDs. I literally just need the PCB and case. :|
AyynoYou've already got Zealio switches to put on the board, so unless you haven't heard of the MOD switches preorder over at Originitive, I'm not sure what else I've got for ya.
This is a warning to those with OCD..
First, I'd like to let you know that although this numpad is not an ideal solution for alt-codes, I still do not regret buying it for its build quality and numeric entry use case. The price was also good. However, there are some things that maybe some of you would like to know before buying.
1. A lot of keycap inconsistencies. Mine came with a lot of misalignments. The FN, backspace, * are skewed to the right. The *, and / are too low compared to the -. The del(.) is too high compared to 0 (ins). See photo above.
2. I don't expect hitting multiple keys with this numpad, but be warned, if you will be using this for gaming, it only registers 2-4 key presses simultaneously. Thankfully the arrow keys all register all together, but if you are pressing say, for whatever reason, home and pgup, you will not be able to press 6 or some other key for example.
3. Lighting is weird. This issue might be related to number 2, but this thing seems to be wired interestingly. When I press 1,3, and 7 together, the 9 will light up also. (see photo) Some other key combos do this as well. I don't plan on using this numpad this way. But I hope this will help some of you guys who might be thinking of specific ways of using this product.
Thank you. And also thanks for the review. I cancelled my order based on the lack of 6KRO. Their decision to save a few cents on diodes cost them a sale. Other than backlight, it functions identically as the Jelly Comb, and I already did a switch replacement on my Jelly Comb so it has the switches I like.
Though it could be said that your review cost Massdrop at least one sale, reviews like that is why I shop at Massdrop in the first place.
etatauriThanks for this.
I was thinking a numpad might make a good gaming accessory to complement my TKL keyboarrd.
I'd have chosen linear switches,
But I guess I need to look for nkro in a numpad. Is that a thing? Or is the search going to lead me back to a razer gamepad?
brenda52411This is a question hard to answer, because it depends on preference!
Usual answer would be to go to a mall, meetup ... to try out different switches.
Something to read: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Category:Cherry_MX - https://deskthority.net/wiki/Category:Keyboard_switches_by_feel/sound
It might be good to know as a starting point, do you want audible and tactile feedback like mx blue or mx green; linear switches without a tactile feedback like mx red, mx black, speed silver; tactile feedback like mx brown, mx clear.
So many options, different folks, different strokes :)
