Is this 100% made in Italy or designed in Italy, but made in China?

How did you tighten yours?... there's no screw head under my bolsters.

SureSh0tI don’t have a model with bolsters, only full length scales. The pivot screw is under the scales on mine. Not sure about how to get off the models with bolsters.

And why is the desertwood $16 more? I think it looks worse than all the others

tlblakburneI wish they were a little clearer in the description, but my guess is that this "desertwood" is desert ironwood. If that's the case, it's very hard, dense, and fairly impervious to moisture, making it tough and unlikely to warp; most ironwoods will actually sink in water rather than float. With those attributes, it's very difficult to work with and shape, and the trees themselves don't have a large growing region. Both of those factors tend to drive up the cost.

tlblakburneDesert ironwood is just a rarer wood.

This feels so nice. A few slightly strange design aspects, basically the design of the lining (not flat) inside seems weird, like it'll be susceptible to dirt. I'm a lefty, sooo- Oh well. But the wood is lovely. Blade and edge great. Thick, but it can sit on its side. But the wood! I can't stop playing with it.

I'm actually not sure. The steel is good and edge is sharp and smooth.

swrossYes...yours is like mine. I’m no expert, but I’d say that “N690“ etched in the blade would indicate the steel it’s manufactured with. N690 stainless steel is by most of the research I’ve done a well respected steel of good balanced properties that is fine grained and takes a really nice edge...as mine does. I have no problem with the steel. Had this knife been advertised N690....I’d have eagerly bought it then...and I still would now.
That said.....it was advertised as having CMP-S35VN steel....which is arguably better steel all things equal. I don’t think I’d really ever be testing the knife to extreme limits. But if you google the price of blade blanks of equal size....the N690 is no where near as expensive....so there’s that! I love the knife, and am surely keeping it...matter of fact I’m currently coating the scales with Tru-Oil.
I just wish the knife i received was the knife I bought.
And an explanation from Massdrop would be nice....

DocZZZManiago, Italy @DocZZZ
Would love to see a pic of the leather carrying case. I mostly favor clipped knives for daily carry, but depending upon the sheath/case set-up I could be persuaded to try something new.

So the bio discusses Maserin as the brand, but nowhere on the page does it detail into where this knife is manufactured/ assembled. Where is this knife being mass produced?

I'm unsure...I see the name of the town, and the word Italy, but nothing about "made."

I've received the knife in Australia yesterday. I'm quite surprised to see it got through custom just fine as I couldn't find any sign of tampering on the bag. The box was squished but the knife is ok. Apart from a few dents on the scale, it's perfect. Cuts through stuffs easily. Very happy!
Update: after using the knife for a while, I can say that it's still beautiful. The scales hold up quite well, with only a bit of denting around the edges (it's wood after all). This is not a heavy duty knife so don't treat it as such.
Because I got the beech gold version, it comes with nickel silver upper scales too, and these tarnished only after a day or two. Surprisingly, the edges are still perfect, probably because they weren't belt sanded so the protective plating is still there.
The blade is gorgeous, the edge stayed sharp until I was cutting a cardboard core (cling wrap) in half. After that, it's off to sharpening. After an hour or two on the 3 Arkansas stones, I still couldn't make the blade aggressive enough. It's quite tough getting these sharpened. I nicked the thumb stud a few times on the stones , too. Not a huge deal, but it is something you need to be mindful of.
Conclusion: I would say if you want a quality knife for light tasks, these will serve you well. The quality is very good, blade is rock solid, perfectly centered and very sharp out of the box. Definitely an interesting company.

Btw knife crimes happen quite often. The news just doesn't really report it outside of local news

So, in the "Note" section in the description, it says the handle options are "Rosewood, Beech Gold (+ $8), and Desert Wood (+ $16)", but in the Specs it says "Black Buri, Beech Gold, Desert wood"....and the pictures look to be showing 4 different types of wood scales. SO....how do I know which one I want, with some descriptors on the pics or removal of the pics of the wooden scales that aren't available?

I'm on the fence with this one. I've read good things about the steel in the blade, but im concerned about the "corrugated" liners. They dont' appear to fit flush to the scales . There are lots of nooks and crannies for dirt and dust to accumulate from pocket carry or everyday use. Not sure how to keep it clean.

It is a gentlemans folder. Its very capable but with the wooden scales that are untreated, I don't think it would be a good edc. Its a nice carry to drop in the pocket of your suit incase you need a blade to cut a cigar or something of the like (not that it couldn't handle more)

It is a small gentleman's folder, but fits like a glove in my medium-sized hand--can just get all four fingers on it. The actions is very smooth. I think $70 is a great deal for this knife.
