Following the success of our last collaboration with Fostex, the TH-X00, we’ve teamed up to make a new headphone: a custom production version of the much-loved, oft-modded Fostex T50RP. Introducing the Massdrop x Fostex T-X0, a resurrection of the discontinued MKII with the original tooling and a few key updates Read More
I had these but was unimpressed.
I followed up with a suggestion from another member to send them to Modhouse.
I did and am very happy I did!
Dont hesitate to get the modification.
I am extremely impressed.
Using Darkvoice or Racoon from Drop, after changing stock cable to Periapt, these sound good. Not as clear as HD 58x from Drop, but dynamics appear greater to me. The balance improves when I turn them up. My only complaint is that the cups slide too easily. They keep sliding down my head. I have tried to bend the wires with limited success. Someday, I will probably try some of the other mods, which are well documented. As cheap planar headphones, this provide the dynamics I was looking for. I recommend this with the limitations listed here.
Mids/highs are really dull and bass is too boomy and bloated. They're comfortable and isolate sound pretty well, but there's not much else going on for them.
They are, however, good for being modded into Argons. Plus you may be able to repurpose the pads, which are quite comfortable.
Pretty cool, but really amazing after being modded!
I prefer the way these look over regular Fostex stuff. Their sound is okay before being modded, definitely fast sounding due to being planar, but not great, kind of muddy. I sent them to Modhouse Audio to be transformed into an Argon. WOW!! Now they are my favorite go-to headphones!! I still have a 6XX and love it too, but the Argons are crazy good!
ilockemupGot my TX-0’s Back from Modhouse and”Unbelievable “!!!
Fantastic transformation!
Dont hesitate to get in on the Modhouse Modification!
Well worth the money and wait time!
Do it!!
Similar to what other people have said. Build quality is great, but the sound quality leaves something to be desired. I bought in on the hype of planar magnetics. That being said, currently trying to slim down my headphone collection and if anyone is still looking for a pair of these mine are for sale.
They look good, feel well built, and the pads are really nice in my opinion. And that's about the only good things I have to say about them. The sound quality was not to my liking at all.
BLUF: Nope.
Longer, just disappointing sound quality out of the box. I understand with mods (especially the Argon mod) these can sound wonderful but really was expecting more. 3 stars for the potential if you want to drop another $120+ into them to mod.
