Very high quality studio monitors, better than Genelecs and much more other brands. Munro is one of the best speakers designer ever, in fact he designed for Dynaudio and I think even for the named Genelec.
heraldo_jonesThat is about as subjective as it gets, without hearing them that's pretty useless. What is useful is that Genelecs are industry standard, I've never seen a studio, big or small, with a pair of these.
clintkevI have heard both and Munros are clearly superior. Gens 1xxx series are in almost every big studio as a "reference" or in their website photos, but I almost never seen a mixing engineer using them and I have visited lot of famous studios where they don't have in a normal day what is showing in the pics.
heraldo_jonesWhere did you hear these Alice Munros and, more importantly, where can other people actually hear them before shelling out $1734.75 based on word-of-one-mouth?
VarholiaglimpI'm from Europe. I rented them from a shop called KMR. I used them in one of the best studios in Spain (Estudio Uno) and in my own pro home studio. Maybe there in USA there are shop which can rent equipment (Vintage King and Sweetwater come to my mind).
Ps: I only have heard the 150s (bigger ones), don't know about the little 100s.
Ps2: I think from the Munro website they offer a trial perido, but don't know if it work overseas.
heraldo_jonesOne thing that we often strive for in studios in NYC is parallel systems so that everyone can judge the same sound whether tracking overdubs at a small place or basics at a larger one. I work with a foont who actually owns and employs the same Telefunken mic pres that were used in Abbey Road Studios by GM; funny thing is, his basic system is ultra-modern and matches those of other studios. If I were going to try the Munro speakers, it would have to be with the idea of personal use. Looks as though I should listen to the 150s at B&H Photo in New York, since that store carries them and is fairly close to where I live.
heraldo_jonesSorry but I would need to see photos of those famous mixing houses. It's awfully expensive and I would think majority of mixing engineers tend to be old fashioned when it comes to "showy" monitors, not sure they would go for the eggs. ;-) might be wrong but very unlikely.
ElsidIf it was a Bose/Denon/B&W and similar brands product, then you will be paying for a name. Munro is one of the most legendary speaker designer ever as you can see in custom speaker along the most important studios in the world and designs for Genelec, Dynaudio and SE Electronics.
