We need a Fiio X7 Mark II drop.
What does the X7 have over the X5?
I was almost ready to get an X3 just because of the price, but people keep telling me the X5 is a better buy. Especially the 3rd Gen.
Is the 9018 better than dual 4490? For what I'm using it for, I don't see a lot of other differences.
The X7 Mark II has a single ES9028 PRO. I am not familiar with the 9018 and I actually prefer the warmth of the AK4490. We don't all have the same hearing, so only you can decide on which sound better for you. The Fiio Q5 will have dual AK4490s, Can't wait. Also, you can buy an X7 Mark II from Amazon. No hassle returns. :)
Edit: DPX1A has two ES9018s.
I owned the X3 (both first and second generations), and X5 (generations 2 and 3), as well as X1 first gen and a few other Fiio sources/amps. X1 first gen, unbelievably, has been my favorite on sound alone. X5II is a close second in sound, but takes the cake with other features like able to be used as an external DAC, two card slots, etc. The X5III just wasn't for me. I really wanted to like it, but the sound was wooly and muddy to my ears. No amount of EQ tweaking or headphone swapping could get me the clear, resolving sound I've gotten used to with all the other Fiio DAPs I've tried. Hope this helps!
I expected the 3rd gen X5 to top the list. Interesting.
I also had high hopes for the X5 Mark lll, but it had bugs (at the time) and the UI was slow. X7 Mark ll has 2GB ram and comes with the AM3A single/balanced module standard. We will see.
As someone who owns the x5 iii I have to agree, constant UI issues, but unlike the top poster, I found it sounded much more open and less neutral vs. the gen ii. It came down to 400gb in a device, top of my budget, fine. Couldnt splurge on the x7 but I bet it would solve my issues.
funny I had the x5 ii and iii at the same time swapping back and forth and I found the ii had a more closed muddy sound. Another con for me was the wheel was not as satisfying as the apple wheel it seems to imitate, more moving parts, places for dust to get in. I use my x5 on construction sites though. Just adding my imput for potential shoppers. I also found the x5 ii just never got my entire library in check even after several days of trying it always crashed after 13000 or so tracks, whereas my gen iii has (finally) fetched my 27000 song library.
Hard to keep track of which is which with all of this gen ii, mark ii, mark iii naming. Lolo.
So typically 'chinese'! However, I think I prefer they get the products improved and to us asap even if it does lead to a bit of buyers remorse when they do fix things (looking at you monoprice m1060 'version 2'). Shiit is looking a lot tha way lately (magni 3) considering its american.
I just got my hands on an Fiio X7 Mark ll. Do not tap "Device Name" multiple times. It will uninstall the Google Services and Play Store and a factory reset won't fix it. 😣
yeah its a temperamental device.
I know if foobar mobile crashes and I jump to fiio music I lose all sound and have to restart. Not nearly as bad though.
I had to manually download the new firmware 1.0.3 and apply. No other problems so far and it sounds great. Although, i think my DPX1A still sounds better. The Onkyo just needs a better UI and player like the Fiio.
"The X7 Mark II has dual ES9028 PROs ". No it only has one. FIFY
I have one and it's a really great DAP.
