Good drop, useful things at a really good discount.Shipping is a bit high though, but even with the shipping it is a good price.
A good start if you want to get into fountain pen, especially with the included paper.A lot of guys started using fountain pen but use really crappy paper and they just quit because of the feathering and stuff .The Rhodia should do the pen justice.
And the included pens are good for a start since you can used the disposal ones as a transition to the converter ones. Also can be gifted to give others a taste. And enough pens guarantee you won't lose them all and can try different inks at the same time to feel the difference.
Really well thought out drop at a good price.
Yes, I recommend buying a CON-50, because it allows you to see how much ink you have left.
But it holds LESS ink than the included converter. It really holds a minuscule amount of ink.
ps: You can always refill the cartridges with a syringe. They hold more ink than the converters.
Woo! Fountain pen noob here so I'm excited to see how these write. I recently started getting better paper to write on, first with a Leuchtturm 1917 and then a Rhodia Meeting book so I think a better pen will just make things that much better.
you convinced me, I was In the previous pilot fountain pen 2X but Its was still not shipped so i cancel it, this one seem the perfect starter kit with quality pepper, various pen etc... thanks
Lt.DanHaha, I didn't mean to make you spend your money. :)
But it's worth it.
If you're like me, I'm pretty sure you'll join the next metropolitan 2-pack drop after trying these pens out. And you'll start searching for more quality paper, notebooks and ink.
My order arrived yesterday. I haven't used a fountain pen in decades. Started playing with the disposable Pilots. They seem nice, but the tip is a bit broad for my taste. Usable, but I usually use the Pilot .5mm pens. For future reference, what should I look for in a fountain pen to get that kind of thin line?
Second question: do you have pointers to lessons on beautiful penmanship for these pens?
An update for the group, we spoke to the vendor today and they informed us that the shipping container with a large portion of the 3-hole, dot grid, black notepad got delayed in transit and is expected to come in next week. If all goes according to schedule the individual orders will ship out by the end of next week from our warehouse.
We will remain in contact with the vendor and make sure to keep you all informed on the progress of the order.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 5/22 or sooner if something comes up.
This is a fine drop for anybody looking to get started with fountain pens. I would highly recommend the Metropolitan especially - fantastic pen that really ought to be more expensive. Using a dot grid pad such as the Rhodia ones will also be helpful in honing your writing skills and getting consistent lettering (if that's what you're looking for).
A fine long (and old!) video on Youtube for aspiring calligraphers can be found here:
For further support and information in learning calligraphy, I also recommend IAMPETH, which has scans of old workbooks that have writing drills and examples. http://www.iampeth.com/
Lastly, I like to give a shoutout to all of the enthusiasts and professionals on Youtube that have product reviews. Brian Goulet (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPdFDFTd6P1a__tAr8CrpCQ), pelahale (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFE01B15DCA7CA8F5), sbrebrown (https://www.youtube.com/user/sbrebrown), etc.
I'm a newbie in fountain pen, i just got this set but don't know which ink I should get. Are there any recomendation in ink bottle for everyday note taking on normal notebook?
ReziusDoes "normal notebook" mean cheaper paper than rhodia? Then I suggest buying ink that doesn't feather much and is generally well behaved, like Noodler's X-feather (which is black and specifically formulated to not feather) or Noodler's Black.
Pilot/Namiki Blue is another good option. Although it is not advertised as such, it is pretty water resistant and permanent, like Noodler's.
Waterman's Serenity Blue is a great ink, too. It looks nice and it performs really well in these pens and almost every other pen (the first blue I bought). But it is wetter than the aforementioned Noodler's inks, so it feathers more on cheap paper.
You know what? There are so many inks that I can't recommend only one or two. Diamine alone has over a hundred ink colours. Buy some quality paper (clairefontaine, rhodia) and then get whatever ink strikes your fancy, without having to worry about feathering or bleedthrough. Visit a pen store online (gouletpens has a great collection of inks with some great tools to view and compare) and check out the vast number of inks. Happy pen addiction!
Too bad this drop restricts the metropolitan to the animal collection. I would definitely be more interested in either the standard black/silver/gold or the retro pop pens.
Amon-RukhI agree with Amon-Rukh that I would rather have the Metropolitan in something other than the animal collection. If the Metropolitan was offered with more choices (other than the animal collection) I would jump on this drop. Perhaps the animal collection did not sell well and they are dumping them?
