I bought this because I wanted a cable that wouldn't break like every other cable but it separated after about a week of light use. This prompted me to inspect the cable further so I found that there are actually pretty wide gaps in the stainless steel wrap. This means that the inside cable will bend just like every other cable
Pros:
-looks cool,
-feels great,
-works like any other cable
-good price on massdrop
- decent timeline on fulfillment
Cons:
-cheap'ish construction
-bends just like any other cable does.
I don't often unplug and plug the USB end in because it's my dedicated phone charger so this has not happened to me. However, the metal sleeve did stretch out a little bit when I pulled it from the middle of the cable once instead of by the end.
Don't believe the hype. This product claims, "no more fraying and bending." After just a week of fairly light use (I used it a total of 4 times), the photo shows that it is no different than any other cable, and does indeed bend, and the "metal" portion does not cover . This cable actually lasted less time than much cheaper cables. Piece of junk.
The USB-C cables I got were crap for charging. My phone didn't even recharge overnight with these cables, even from a full 2.4A port. The phone doesn't detect the current source as high enough to support rapid charge.
The promise of 2.4A on the drop was a lie.
Also, the steel cable sleeve is nothing but a cosmetic treatment. It is a springy wrap, not linked and protective like actual conduit. You can easily stretch the cable just by tugging on it, since the spring uncoils, and it feels more like elastic than metal at that point.
This was a sham from the start.
Now, my 2nd purchase from massdrop that makes me question using the site, especially with the "no returns" policy. I feel like I've been duped on this one.
TwyxHey @Twyx and @cgermain - Sorry to hear about your poor experience with these cables. If you feel that the product is defective then please submit a support ticket so our customer service team can assist you. Sorry for any inconvenience!
TwyxThank you so much for saving me 20$. I hope you don't write off MD as it has a great artisan community. You just need to filter out basically anything you could buy on aliexpress :-(
Just got these. Switched the USB C cable out with the one in my S8 + charger.. I'm only getting slow charging. Pretty disappointed.
They look and feel amazing though.
Edit: I just flipped the connector around the other way (USB C should be the same both ways) and I got fast charging. lol, least it's working one way!
eponyWe have discussed this with the vendor and are having them ordering more for the next drop.
USB-C is a favorite and we need to have more available for our members.
JaysunJaysun,
I need USB-C to USB-A (looks like you have that)
-BUT-
Also need USB-C to USB-C
Can you get any USB-C to USB-C for this buy, PLEASE??? If I say PRETTY PLEASE, am I showing my age?
Thank you,
Brenda
VipreCarbon steel rusts; stainless steel is an alloy and is coated with chromium. It will corrode (i.e. rust) only under VERY unusual circumstances. They make sinks out of stainless steel. If "Every Stainless Steel product" you've ever knows rusts, you must be buying cheap Chinese knock-offs made from tin but labeled as stainless steel.
It's EXTREMELY rare for commercial grade stainless steel products to rust. If you but a stainless steel product, like a knife, it's very doubtful it will rust, unless you bought it at the 99c store.
