The Real Steel S6 builds on its predecessor, the G6, with better materials, fit, and finish. Sporting a nearly 4-inch blade made from VG-10—a high-carbon-content stainless steel from Japan—it takes a good edge and can handle abrasions in the field Read More
Don't get me wrong. I love vg-10. It is one of my favorite steels. But >$100 isn't really ok on a Japanese made Spyderco, and it is definitely a bit much on a Chinese Real Steel, especially the competition at this price are knives like the g10 Manix and the bugout, both legendarily good pieces in better steels.
I have this knife that I bought on a drop here with the 14C28N blade. Really well made blade and nice to handle. I got it here for $33 which price for buck is probably the best knife I have ever purchased. Really difficult to believe that such a great knife can be sold so cheap
I own two Real Steel H6’s (one with a satin blade and one with a black blade) which look similar to this one. They’re liner locks with G-10 handles, have 14C28N blade steel, and cost around $50 each. They’re really nice knives. I’m really drawn to the look of this knife and would possibly buy it if I didn’t already own two H6’s. The titanium lock side looks really nice on the knife.
Nice knife, I like the blade shape but the 3.75" length gives me pause. Not sure about the VG 10, I guess some like it and some don't, I hear that it's not a premium steel but I'm not sure, Shabazz says no problem but in his video D2 is no problem either. I like the knife but not enough to drop a $120 on it. Oh and ya, looks like torx on the pivot to me...
The Real Steel S series are their flagship knives which get made in limited sprints, and this is some $30 cheaper than I see it elsewhere. Titanium at $120 is more understandable than VG-10, but I'm never upset to see VG-10 as a design choice, I think it should get more love, and that the only reason it doesn't is that familiarity breeds contempt.
For a value buy, I'd just tell everyone to pick up a Real Steel E775 Griffin button lock, for less than half the price of this thing. That knife flat out astounds me. It's a much better value proposition.
However I am indeed considering picking this up at this price. I love my H6-S1 -- and this is essentially an upgraded version of the H6-S1 despite what they say about it being a follow on from the G series. I've been eyeing it at $150 and haven't pulled the trigger because I don't usually pay a premium for limited editions, and a certain amount of that $150 price is coming from the fact that less than 500 were made. But at $120, it's more palatable.
"Plus, thanks to slotted-head screws and accurately machined components, the knife is easy to clean if it gets dirty."
Funny that - my eyes see Torx-head screws...
MandoBearI bet this is something lost in the translation; they probably wanted to indicate the flush with the scales flat head screws, as opposed to the commonly used button head ones. Then someone, or an automated translator, made the "correction" to "slotted."
rbbbThe Real Steel knives I have handled are not bad but neither do they warrant premium pricing. This might be a deal at half what they are asking. VG-10 is not really a premium steel anymore and at this price there are many great knives you could pick up with s35vn steel. Or another $20 for a PM2 with s30v.
