Tough enough for Paul Bunyan, these heavyweight flannel shirts from Rothco come in a variety of plaid colors. Each one is made of 8-ounce cotton with a six-button front and two roomy chest pockets for your phone or gear Read More
If anyone already owns one of these, is the flannel the gritty, scratchy type? If there's anything I can't stand it's the feeling of a shirt scraping against my skin.
PropHatMy question as well. I would like to order a couple of these for hubby, but if they are not soft, I might as well not order them. They won't be worn.
brenda52411Buffalo Jackson makes the softest flannel shirts. More towards the lightweight side but very nice......and if you buy when on sale, very affordable.
Even if the chest dimensions are to be doubled, what do you do about sleeve length? Normally a medium would be about 15.5 for the neck and 32-33 for the sleeve. I can't see myself buying a basically unreturnable shirt when I have no assurance that it will fit.
"Complete with buttoned wrist cuffs"I tell you, the folks who write the copy at MD for these drops continue to astound me with their clever descriptions and mesmerizing sales pitches! Seriously, who can resist a shirt with jaw-dropping features like buttons on the damn cuffs?! Don't let the fact that every other long sleeve, button-front shirt in your closet also came with cuff buttons distract you--these are actually pretty good shirts.I'm not a huge Rothco fan (and other than the label and a marketing agreement, I doubt Rothco has much to do with the manufacture of these shirts), but I have examined examples of these shirts sold under various labels, and they are a decent version of a basic flannel shirt.
As with any 100% flannel shirt, there are two caveats: they will shrink and they will fade over time. You can mitigate the shrinkage by washing yours in cold water and skipping the dryer, or you can simply buy the next size up (there are plenty of "up sizes" to chose from in this drop). Cold water also reduces the fading.
All of that, however, misses the whole point of a shirts like these!
My advise is to buy one size larger, wash and dry the hell out of it, and wear it as in tended: a functional work shirt with a mildly "who-gives-a-shit" attitude.
Which is to say--you don't suppose Kurt Cobain spent a lot of time fretting about shrinkage and fading do you?
Hey everyone! Figured i would post here about it just in case the question comes up: the chest measurement on the sizing chart is for 1/2 chest circumference -- so to get the total chest measurement for this garment you'd need to multiply that number by 2. Thanks for your interest on this drop~!
