Mine arrived today. Feels great. Lovely leather. As for the complaints about the size, you can see clearly in the photographs where the Field Notes sit in relation to the cover. Its as clear as day in the photos. Its a good size and something I plan to customise Midori style.

Good to know. I've got the same punch as you do, it sounds like. I was just hesitant to try it. I think I might do the three-holes at top and bottom so I can run more vertical elastics. Thanks for the info!

lucimckI think it is a pretty low risk thing to try. If you're worried about liking it, my one suggestion might be to avoid punching the middle hole, and then if you decide you don't like the fauxdori setup, you can leave the elastic in the ends, it gives the cover a nice little accent color, but don't have to worry about an unused hole in the middle.

Here's mine. Carried every day since May 20, 2016 (yeah, not that long). The wear on the black FN is because I was carrying it in my pocket without a cover long before this arrived.
Punched holes with nails (even though I do have an awl). I did use the flap for a while but decided I'd rather carry 2 notebooks and have 2 pockets.

The vendor has let us know that due to an increased holiday demand the order has been delayed. Based on new estimates it should be ready for shipment to our warehouse on 1/11. Transition times from the vendor's location to our warehouse are about a week.
Based on this the order will arrive at our warehouse after the expected ship date. We understand that the additional wait time is undesirable. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (http://massdrop.com/transactions).
You can expect an update from us on 1/12 or sooner if something comes up.

elimelendezHey Eli,
Just wondering if you have an update on this order. I gave it the weekend for an update, I know this stuff takes time and I'm okay with the wait. Just seeing if there's an update on ETA. Thanks!

This is my Notebook after about 6ish months of use. As you can see it fits in most of my back pockets just fine, slips in and out with just enough leeway.

GameSofterWhat color is this? I like the patina it has gotten!

ColourspotMy transcript says that it's dark brown. I remember when I got it being surprised that it didn't look a lot like the sample picture for "dark brown". But it's definitely grown on me and I'm glad I picked it.
Being handmade to order means there will be some variance between cover to cover. That just means no one else has a cover just like yours.

It is a tad big but i can only imagine it was done to give the actual notebooks inside some breathing room. Also it may be because I wear baggy jeans but i had no problem at all slipping this in my back pocket, 2 notebooks pen and all. It might not fit tighter fit jeans.

fr49200Notebooks breathe? I don't think so. Rather, I think it was done because it's easier to make something a bit too large than to make it fit correctly.

Recoil_RobIn case you weren't aware, the phrase "breathing room" doesn't necessitate the actual process of breathing. And on the "easier to make too large" thing, Midori does the same thing with the Travelers notebook. Because it's bigger than the actual notebooks, it prevents the edges of the notebooks from getting wear and tear and getting creased, something that as shown on the description of this product, is the intended purpose of it.

Would the Rhodia Unlimited notebook fit well in the Rustico cover? (It is 3.5" by 5.5") See http://www.jetpens.com/Rhodia-Unlimited-Notebook-3.5-x-5.5-Lined-Black/pd/10781

OrguyI don't see why not. They're my favorite, better than Moleskine or Field Notes in terms of fountain pen ink, and I see them as the perfect notebook for this cover. The Rhodia Webnotebooks were in MD recently but hard covers makes for a more bulky proposition. The Rhodia Unlimited's thin cover is a win imho. I can't wait for them to have a drop here again so we can get more:

OrguyHi @Orguy,
The Rhodia Unlimited fits very well into this Rustico cover. The elastic kind of gets in the way, but you can tuck it neatly or just cut it off. Hope this helps!

Just got mine and first impression - - Great leather and stitching - Leather is a little thick but very supple - Size could have been a little smaller for the Field Notes - Dye job on the burgundy scratches VERY easily (note the area to the top left of the pen holder) and lightens up on the center fold and pen holder when stressed - this might grow on me as time goes by!?!?!?

I received mine last week. I keep a field notes notebook in my inside right blazer/sports jacket pocket along with a pencil and I thought that this will be nice to dress it up a bit. It was the saddle color. My impressions:
-really nice craftmanship -the size is too big to be pocketable. Very thick leather and about half an inch each dimension bigger than it could had been. It does fit well in a standard inside jacket pocket, so I had to not use it and it is sitting now. Will be fine for notebooks that are inside a bag, and I will find a use for it.

It does scratch and the color lightens up when stretched. Both happened when I put a mechanical pencil in the pen sleeve. Discoloration is temporary but the scratching is permanent. Pretty much just like the burgundy in the picture below
I don't mind, really. I have not seen those things on the inside of the leather, on the other hand I did not rub it and I did not use it much as well...

jeffersonAThanks, very useful! 🙌
Will probably switch to buckskin; I want to minimize scratches and make it age gracefully (mine is to be used with a passport, in reality).
