Get better sound out of your speakers with the SMSL Q5 Pro, an impressive DAC/power amp for the price. Capable of driving high-resolution audio with a sampling rate of 44.1–192 kHz, it features nearly every input imaginable for your computer, flat-screen, Blu-ray player, and more Read More
Pros: Tiny form factor on the desk. Adjustable bass and treble. A lot of input options including analog, USB and coaxial. Remote control. Display for volume level and input sources. Enough power for small bookshelf speakers.
Cons: Mine comes with European power cable. I had to replace the cable to 110V. The power adapter itself supports 110 - 240V. Pre-programmed EQs are useless for me. Mid range is empty. Bass sounds like hollow.
Overall: I cannot complain about sound quality with $80 class D amplifier. If you are looking for small amp on your desk and it isn't necessarily audiophile grade , this amp is for you.
Great amp for its size and price, currently powering pair of Bose 201. Adjustable EQ, bass and treble only, 10 EQ's to choose from. Great variety to inputs all seem to work without flaw.
I love this little stereo amp! Sounds good and great power/size for my bedroom. Adjustable EQ is a great additional feature. The remote could definitely be better. It seems like a multipurpose remote that is not customized to work with this amp. Many buttons do not function. If your remote stops working, just press the A button and it will function again.
I have this connected to my TV (optical), Amazon Echo Dot (mini-jack) and my Sony Bluray player (coaxial). I have not tried to use the USB input.
I haven't had issues with the power cable sparking because I don't plug or unplug the power cable while the power cord is plugged into my powerstrip.
Very happy with this amp!
It works. Plenty of power. Clean sound. Seems a little "bright". Only amp I have ever used the tone controls on. Came with a Euro plug instead of an American plug. It took some time to work through customer service at massdrop, but then they made it good. Service gets five stars. I run this hooked up to an Amazon Echo and Micca MB42's in the kitchen. Great hands free system that sounds great, takes up almost no space. It does run warm, but not hot.
Almost exactly what I was looking for. I use PC optical -> Q5 -> 2 bookshelf speakers + powered sub. Quality is about what I expected at $90. I like that it's quite small, and does it's job well. I couldn't get the remote to work, but that's not important to me as I'm using it right next to my PC.
It does it’s job, powers your speakers. if Your looking for exactly that this is for you. Not bad but nothing special when it comes to quality (obviousy). If your going to get a nice set of speakers save your pennys and shell out for something nicer.
I intended to use this to replace a $20 digital amp, which I was feeding from the analog outputs of a SqueezeBox. I figured the DAC in this more expensive unit, along with it's own amplifier, would be superior. It works, but the sound is muffled and bereft of excitement. I went back to my old configuration, which was far superior. (Later I added an external Scott Nixon Chibi Saru DAC, which was a big improvement, but the high value of that DAC makes the comparison invalid.)
