Product Description
When Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first-ever human in space in 1961, the world went wild. In honor of that historic day, Sturmanskie has released this limited-edition timepiece series—part of a small 1000-2,000-piece run—styled in the fashion of the watch worn on Gagarin’s wrist Read More

Had one of these a while back and noticed it was losing about five minutes a week. Took it to my watchmaker who opened the case and discovered a miniature camera, two microdots, and a listening device! He called the FBI and and I never got it back! A waste of good rubles, if you ask me!

Relax, this a joke about famous Russian spy working undercover in Berlin during WWII. There was a super popular movie made about him, many Europeans know about this film. He's also a subject of numerous jokes. Look it up - 17 Moments of Spring.

Looks like a well made watch, nice colour palette and very definite in it's style ,and very retro ;particularly the 36mm size. Would probably suit a slim build hipster guy; which is not me . But a watch with a lot of character.

Yes I know it is small. I have kept a nice Swiss Certina moonphase chrono from my wedding day in 1993, it is only 34mm. at the time this was the size of watches. So it conforms with the retro description as a replica of the original watch. I also had 3 Gucci watches at 34mm and just one was just 3mm deep, and a Seiko Lassale at 35 and 4mm deep. So I guess watches fron this Russsian era are going to be even smaller!!

I am just curious why mechanical/manual version of this watch is about $100 more than automatic version (the drop we had couple weeks ago). It seems counter intuitive. Is mechanical one using more expensive movement?

rumata13The 2609 movement is no longer made so the scarcity increases cost. And this is also the same lineage as the watch Gagarin wore, which was also manual wind.

rumata13Poljot is much higher quality, Poljot watches go for a lot when you see them for sale...the auto is a lower quality, kind of janky. Still it's hard for me too, you would have a hard time convincing me that a Poljot copy of a Swiss manual is better than a Chinese copy of a Swiss manual, so I understand your trepidation

Why the page URL is "sturmanskie-gagarin-commemorative-mechanical-watch--33vers" (giving the impression that this is the 33mm version) but the watches are 40mm diameter?

I'm sure we will run the 33 mm again at some point.

R2AWatchesGreat! Thanks. You know, there are different types of public for watches, and one of them is "give me a watch that is as close as possible to the original Yuri Gagarin's watch". Sure 33m is very small for nowadays standards and large wrists, and your current choice (40mm) is better for most wrists... but quite people would love to see a Gagarin reedition in 33mm, as close as possible to the original Yuri Gagarin's watch (dial color, numbers color, case size, stainless steel, mechanical movement) with the exception of adding that spectacular caseback with Yuri's image. So, thanks for replying, and, count me in for that "Yuri's" model.

Do you sell titanium or stainless steel here because it is not working?

Normally I would say something like: "oh shit, another Russian watch" but I can't say that because this is the SAME DAMN RUSSIAN WATCH MD keeps dropping over and over again! Well what MD lacks in variety, they certainly make up for in timing since one of today's headlines is all about the damn Russians cyber attacking US and European entities working on COVID-19 vaccines. And of course last week, the news was all about Russia paying bounties to the Taliban for killing US and Allied troops in Afghanistan. So yes, absolutely, this is the perfect time to show your support for one crappy political regime by purchasing a pretend Russian watch, made in another crappy political regime, China. Don't get me wrong--I'm not trying to make a political statement, I'm just suggesting that by purchasing this watch, YOU might be.

Perhaps, but these days I'm against anything that might indicate I'm rooting for any particular side or that I'm in the mood to overlook either side's history. Teams have out lived their usefulness at this point.
