Product Description
Made in the Tactile Turn shop in Richardson, Texas, the Mover and Shaker pens are machined from solid metal for reliable durability and a great feel in the hand. And unlike other machined pens, they have a subtle groove along their length that provides just the right amount of grip Read More

Hey guys, there's something that's not quite adding up in terms of the prices. If the group buy gets to the lowest price ($49.99), it would still be cheaper (and you would get the pen(s) sooner) to order directly from Will's website, Tactileturn.com. The site currently has a 25% discount coupon active (ilovepens) on any order. So, taking the $49.99 lowest price as a baseline, ordering an Aluminum Mover\Shaker here would total $52.90, while ordering directly from Tactileturn.com would amount to $51.75 with the coupon, and with immediate shipping. The price difference grows considerably (and favors ordering directly from Will) on the other materials, except titanium.
Again, using the lowest price unlockable as a baseline, ordering a Brass version here would total $67.90, while in Tactileturn.com the total would be $59.25 (almost a 14% difference). Copper: Massdrop total, $82.90; Tactileturn.com total, $74.25 (11% difference). Bronze: Massdrop total, $97.90, Tactileturn.com total, $89.25 (9% difference). Titanium: Massdrop total, $107.90, Tactileturn.com total, $104.25 (3% difference).
Are the prices wrong or am I missing something?
As a sidenote, I own a dark red aluminum Shaker and a Titanium Mover, both ordered directly from Tactileturn.com. I originally ordered a blue Alu Mover and had the same threading issue (the threads wore out after opening and closing the pen four times) reported here by some users. The nock mechanism was also sticking, but Will was quick to respond to both issues. He offered me a discount to upgrade to a Titanium Mover and also sent a new nock mechanism. You don't really get that type of customer service from many companies these days. The pens are awesome, balance is great and, in my case, the Titanium version weighs just a bit more than the aluminum version. Will's a great dude, and if any problems arise, he will take care of you.

So now let them 'take advantage' of this discount here. In a world without that discount code or Massdrop, we are stuck with the MSRP. Let's count our blessings. Btw, let's show respect to Massdrop and not low blow them with lower prices from other places which can somehow affect the outcome of the drop. I know its the internet age and you have every right to spread word. That is if you don't respect the other party. In respecting Massdrop, let's just not blow their business. All MD did was help a lot of us by trying to find good deals. Some deals may not be perfect esp for CONUS customers but they are trying. Somehow, I'd like to thank you for the info you gave but in another way, it was hurting MD. Hope you understand.

StrummWhile I do appreciate what MassDrop is doing and their business model, my post was not outside of what other members have posted on other drops when better deals can be had on other sites. That 25% discount code could be used on the official website of the pen's maker (TactileTurn.com), no less, and, unfortunately for MD, it gave people a much better price than what they would have found here.
I have participated in two drops thus far, and on both I saved quite a bit, but if that's the main point, to find the best deal, the existence of that coupon code meant that people could save anywhere from 3 to 14% by going directly to the maker's official website, with the added benefit of immediate shipping.
I'm sorry if the post offended you, but it really did not hurt MD; there was only one purchase before I wrote that post. Right now it's sitting at four purchases and 11 commitments. Will took down the coupon code (so only one person took advantage of the discount) and now MD users have the best price.
I didn't expect or wanted any thanks, just threw the information out there for people to use. If the post went against MD's terms of use, they would have deleted it but, once again, it's nothing that other members haven't done before (and their posts have not been deleted).

I'm really not impressed with my pen... it feels shitty. I'm not seeing all the hubba hubba everyone keeps raving about.

manezinhoThanks for being so exceptionally specific. Mind elaborating why you feel that your pen is "shitty"?

manezinhoWow! I now realize that I have been totally delusional in believing my Tactile Turn Mover/Shaker pens are exceptional values for their minimal design elegance, quality of construction, utility, and functionality. Even more disturbing is that so many other supposed pens experts (see: http://www.tactileturn.com/reviews/) have been duped as well. You state your case so elegantly and precisely that one can only bow to your exacting logic. After all an individual who participates in two Happy Socks drops must of necessity have a fine and exacting appreciation of the value of things.

It's a shame that these pens have awful click mechanisms. Worse yet, Will has not tried to follow through in the least with problems that I and another have had.
He tried to take it offline via email, but I can say that it was only a ploy stop the questions in this forum.
I would wholeheartedly advise against this purchase unless you want a pen that gets stuck when trying to engage it. Dollar store pens do not have this issue....
I love being able to connect with the end user, but some days it is hard to keep up with that, making products, making prototypes, keeping my employee trained and on task with new stuff every day .... I wouldn't give it up for anything. I love what I do just like I know you do Brad!
TactileTurnI agree Will, and if we lived closer we could change the world together!

will it be wobbly while writing if i use jetstream refill in mover?
as i had experience of this in another pen which originally was design for G2 refill and the slight difference of tip diameter of G2 and jetstream refill makes the jetstream refill kind of wobbly while writing
I totally agree and hope to have a line of pens later this year that fit some of the very popular refills like the Jetstream and regular Hi-Tec-C but require a more specialized design to make them fit ideally.

I got my Titanium Mover a few days ago, but it looks a bit different from the Titanium Mover from Tactile Turn's webpage. It seems to me that the tip of the refill did not stick out further enough. In pretty much all ball point pens I own, I see a small portion of flat part of the tip, but that part is hidden under the barrel of my Mover.
search

The above is a photo of my Mover along with the photo in the webpage in the background. As mentioned above, I only see slanted part of the tip on my Mover. Also, the end tip of the hole seems to be a little thicker compared to the one in the photo from Tactile Turn.

What I mean by the flat part of tip is marked with red outline in the above image. The image is taken from http://www.tactileturn.com/store/titanium
Sure, just adding a couple layers of tape to the back of the refill should work to make that possible, but refill length can be very critical otherwise the click mechanism can't extend down far enough to be able to move to the next position (extended or retracted). How much sticks out can vary a little from pen to pen.

TactileTurnJust an idea, I have a few zebra F-701 pens that came with the Zebra F-0.7 plastic refill and the refill has a black plastic cap that fits inside the top cover the hole so the click mechanism has a flat surface to hit. If you had some old Zebra F-0.7 plastic refill you could take the insert and reuse it on some of the refills for the Mover instead of the aluminum foil route. Also this might help with some refills to have more of the tip out of the end, use this insert and some sandpaper on the end of the refill till you have just the right amount at the end of your pen.

Heads up to anyone with smaller hands or sensitive to back-weightedness in pens: I received a Mover in one of my massdrop gift boxes and was super disappointed in the writing experience. The balance is way off to the point that writing even one sentence is impossible. Pretty pen, but just didn't work out for me.
pengsnailMost of the big reviewers love the balance on these pens. I specifically drill out more material from the back to help out the balance. Sorry you had a bad experience but I'd have to say I can count the people that have had issues with the balance on one hand.

TactileTurnOnly just saw this comment now and all I can say is that I'm disappointed. Please understand that I only wanted to help out other potential customers who might have the same issues I did. The fact that the "big reviewers" love the balance doesn't mean that I didn't.
Hey Everybody - Will Hodges here from Tactile Turn. This is the first time these new Movers & Shakers have been on Massdrop. We've gotten a DMG Mori Sprint 20-5 that's allowed us to make our own all titanium mechanism that will last for generations. If you guys and gals have any questions I'll try to keep an eye on the comments section here or you can email me directly at will@tactileturn.com.
Send me an email at will@tactileturn.com with a screenshot of your order or forward over your order from massdrop and I can get you taken care of.

I love my aluminum Mover, and now I want to get a Shaker. I'm interested in the different weights of the various metals. Will, can you list here the weights of the Shaker in different materials?
floydfloydSure and I'll include weights for Movers as well for anyone interested:
Mover: Titanium - 1.48oz Bronze - 2.17oz Copper - 2.51oz Brass - 2.39oz Aluminum - 1.12oz
Shaker: Titanium - 1.44oz Bronze - 2.08oz Copper - 2.39oz Brass - 2.26oz Aluminum - 1.10oz

I just received my titanium Mover. Love the pen but like tymn I'm having issues with the click mechanism getting stuck. Any idea how it can be fixed?
Did some more reading and it seems a few people have reported this stuck problem. Applies also to the Retrakt (by KK) which uses the same click mechanism.
jcwcNot an official reply of any kind, but out of curiosity could you try unscrewing the body just a smidge so it's not tightened up all the way and see if the mechanism works smoothly. I had a similar issue with mine and I'm wondering if it's the same thing.
jcwcSend me an email with your address and I'll send you a new mechanism. We try to test them before they go out, but sometimes after a little bit of use they start having issues. They just unscrew, so all you have to do is take that bad one out and screw the new one in as tightly as you can and it'll generally solve it. My email is Will@tactileturn.com

I own several of these from Kickstarter and the man who makes them is an awesome guy. My favorite color is teal, which isn't in this buy. However, I also own a machined finish which is just plain aluminum without anodization, giving it a very cool look that tends to get scratched up easily. The pen mechanism is very smooth and fun to play with.
If you're used to cheap plastic ballpoints, this heavy aluminum pen might take some getting used to. I prefer the look of the Mover, which is the longer version. The Shaker is a nice choice if you want a compact pen.
Be sure to look at the compatible refills list if you intend to replace the one the pens come with, since both designs use different refills.
FarsideAw shucks. Make a guy blush. I'm phasing out teal, but I'm really glad you like yours.
