When Tex Designs originally released the Yoda TrackPoint mechanical keyboard, it revolutionized the way we think of (arguably) the two most important components of our desktop setup. Now Tex Designs is back with the second iteration of the keyboard, the Yoda TrackPoint II mechanical keyboard kit Read More
syberghostTex had a collab with GMK and made a nice keycap set that nobody purchased for like 2 years...I was about to get a set but then noticed they recently sold out since they only made 100 sets. And they were kinda steep at $175 just for a little less keycaps than a TKL.
Also for anyone wanting custom GMK keycaps for your Yoda 2 keyboard, Tex said they would round off your G, H, B keys for a fee of $2 as there were a fair amount of people who wanted these keys included with GMK Thinkcaps (but not enough to get many sets of them made).
Anyways, you can always contact Tex and they will round your GMK Thinkcaps (keycap set made to resemble IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads, that should be close to going in production now as its been roughly a year or so since this was a GB) so naturally myself and a few others filled out the IC for Tex Yoda 2 compatible keycaps (rounded G H B keycaps to go around the track pad) whenever they arrive or you can send in any keycaps to get rounded off by them....but they are located in Taiwan just FYI in case that's a make or break it depending on where you live and shipping costs.
Second time in few days. False availability email.
Email came in about an hour...
It's here! Thanks for requesting the Tex Yoda II TrackPoint Mechanical Keyboard Kit! We thought you'd be happy to know that it's available.
Earlier false availability email was for the IKBC MF108 V3
I love my Thinkpad and its trackpoint. Maybe the designer should make a TGR Alice format board with the trackpoint... It's the perfect ergo format and already has a large empty space in the middle for the trackpoint so there's no need for custom keycaps. Dream keyboard.
HELP
EDIT: So through the contact form on the Tex website I was able to get a replacement trackpoint module. The one I that snapped in half was from a kit at least two years old. The new one sent to me by Tex was much sturdier! I expect it's the stronger version that's going to be included in future drops.
I have this keyboard and I love pretty much everything about it except for the fact that it's not QMK. The online configurator is decent, but it doesn't compare to QMK. Also, it would be nice if the included keycaps were PBT, or if Tex offered some different styles of keycap sets with the GHB cutouts. The Kodachi set is really cool looking, but it's ABS. The second my keycaps start to show shine it drives me crazy.
I'd pick up this in a couple months if it was qmk tmk or kll. I want support for long term. Free software gives me security and I can get support even if Tex disappears. Qmk seems the most mature though I haven't looked at kll much.
Actually I'd probably get Kodacci as it is a 75% with a tkl like layout. But Even if the site goes down I can't change the layout easy😕 plus I don't live online. No internet at the cabin or working out of town sometimes.
Sadly Kodacci had the same problem so I have to get a keyboard with no trackpoint or build it myself/together with someone else
Thanks for building it, it is impressive work. Sourcing the component. Integrating the hardware. More stuff I haven't thought of haha I'm sure😏
I can replace keycaps/case/stabilizers but firmware means I may as well grab another board. I could have lived with only 60% but not when support is only 10% of its lifespan. It would grow up to be an unruly teenager 🤣
Cheaper boards can get away with it but this puts it with some big shots
