I'm not a journalist or a pen/writer enthusiast so I feel weird that I'm only interested in it for the leather cover rather than the notebook. I've looked for similar A5 full grain, handmade covers and most start around $90 so this seems like a good deal to me even if the notebook itself leaves a lot to be desired apparently. I've found other sizes in this price range but the closest one I've seen is Travelers Company; those're slimmer and taller than A5
I’m so glad I read the comments because I am a sucker for a good notebook- hell, I’m a sucker for a decent one... for a $50 pricetag (oh wait... $75?!?!) these days Tomoe River paper is pretty much a no brainer - Rhodia or Clairefontaine at minimum ( both of course are great but TR has the obvious edge, particularly among us fountain pen fanatics). For this amount, you can snag a Traveler’s, a Lord & Field, Bull + Stash among many others. Granted I haven’t tried this one and can guarantee I won’t given the dud for the buck. It’s decent looking but I have a hard time believing it will win market share against some stiff competition that checks many more boxes. Sorry, if this offends and I admit full disclosure that I have zero first hand experience... maybe if the price were to come down or after a review sample. Until then it won’t take shelf space from even Baron Figg at my store. Best of luck to the makers - I know how challenging this craft truly is.
As a journalist, I love me some expensive notebooks. However, I have yet to figure out what I am paying for when the price goes over $25 bucks. Especially for a paper that fountain pens supposedly bleed through.
Does anyone know if the 2020 MD Notebook Page a Day Diary A5 will fit in this cover? It is approximately one inch thick and I have not had any luck with other A5 covers fitting due to the thickness of the diary.
Worth mentioning that these were up for 40 dollars mid March (the drop didn't go through then). I guess let's see if more people buy it now that it's 25% more expensive.
