This is probably the best keyboard out-of-the-box that money can buy, specifically the 55g 87u.

totally feel the same certainly after last weekend when i finally decided to mod my FC660C with hyperspheres and lube the stabs with superlube grease and the switches with superlube oil .. the board is silent smoothhhhhh awsome.. i'm even thinking of selling my other mx-clear FC660M (rare model because Leopold doesn't sell mx-clears anymore) and buying a second FC660M for work and building in a HASU controller adding sum KBDfans rings .... Nothing beats the smoothness of Topre really impressed more so after lubing and silencing. i do have to open it up again because i rushed the lube job a bit .. my backspace doesn't sound as perfect as it can hahaha...

As someone who wasted their money buying one of these after being unhappy with all the Cherry switches I've tried - save your money. The quality is fine on the keyboard, nothing wrong there, but Topre switches are hailed as this great thing and they're absolutely not. It feels only slightly better than typing on a rubber dome keyboard. I would have returned mine if I could have, but Elite Keyboards doesn't allow any returns (I returned all the Cherry keyboards I tried). These are expensive because one company holds the patent on these keys and in the mechanical keyboard community, Topre owners love to act like their keyboards are the best because of how much money they spent on them. In this case, money doesn't buy you anything here but an overpriced keyboard that barely feels much better than a rubber dome.
I have the 55G uniform weight, and constantly when gaming I accidentally press one of the keys. Absolutely do not buy the ergonomically weighted or 45G versions unless you are purely a typist. Also a nitpick, but the rubber feet on this keyboard are terrible and do almost nothing to keep the keyboard sliding around. Most of the Cherry keyboards I tried at least had nice grippy feet, but this one they're real lackluster on so I have to move it back every so often as it seems to slide around on my keyboard tray from being pulled out and closed. This keyboard is just unbelievably hyped for what turned out to be really mediocre. I'm utterly unimpressed with this keyboard and Topre switches.

Interesting, sounds like you've had quite a bit of experience in the realm of mechanical keyboards. If I were you I might try a mod like Makami recommended (browns with a heavier spring installed, at least that's what I think he said!) but that might mean more wasted time and money. Really though, if you're happy enough with what you got then there's no point.
And you're not alone. There's plenty of people who've tried Topre and cannot figure out how they're any better than your typical rubber dome keyboard, and they'll often say that quite loudly and repeatedly. When you consider the fact that the mechanical keyboard community is full of practically religious zealots, you can probably imagine the kind of toxic arguments that follow. It's a touchy subject for many I suppose.. perhaps it has something to do with the expense involved.
So again, thanks for sharing your thoughts + experiences in an open and honest manner. No one here will judge you for your opinions on Topre.. well, I'll try not to anyways :)

I don't understand this website. Are you guys really willing to wait 2 months to save $20 on something you could get in 2 days from Amazon. I know this included some PBT spacebars but I still think it is crazy. I'm not willing to allow my money to be tied up for 2 months on something like a keyboard. Especially when there are so many other alternatives that don't take nearly as long. You can get the 55g black case version on Amazon right now for $229.65 (https://www.amazon.com/Realforce-87U-Tenkeyless-55g-Black/dp/B00MV84Y2Y). This is craziness. If you can't afford $20 more then should you be spending $200 on a keyboard in the first place?

Elitekeyboard's non-US shipping is pretty extortionate, but last I checked shipping from Amazon Japan isn't even 2000 yen, they ship keyboards internationally and don't require a proxy, so it would still be cheaper than the lowest price available for this drop.

Not new. I use mechanical keyboards. But that doesn't mean I am crazy about it. I'm not one of those people on here who sees a cool keyboard and thinks "well, guess the kids aren't eating this month since I have to buy this keyboard".

I'd really like to see the all 30g or all 45g version of this. As a MX brown guy 55g sounds like a lot to me, and not really a fan of the idea of variable weight.

CyphreI think that is what I was remembering.
Sorry about the early end. Looks like there was a real rush on the last day here and the remaining units we had allocated got bought. Based on how well this went though, I have high hopes for more Topre in the future. Thanks everyone.
We're talking with Topre about a couple possible projects. Fingers crossed for some cool things

I need someone to please explain this keyboard to me, using really tiny words. This price, for a keyboard, seems more than excessive, but having said that, I used to have a keyboard that I absolutely loved. The touch was just right, but I never did figure out what was so right about it. I wore the lettering off the keys, but still used it. One thing that keyboard DID have, was a little nib on the letter "k" so I could tell without looking at the keyboard, that I had my fingers on the right keys. I think it was a quiet keyboard. Other than that, I don't know what made it such a great keyboard, but it seemed to have just the right touch. No keyboard has been even close to that one. Wish I would have kept that keyboard.
I don't know enough about keyboards to have a clue what the description says about this keyboard. I don't know what a PBT Spacebar is... well, I know what a spacebar is, but a PBT spacebar?? Am I reading this correctly, so that you can select the pressure of the keys?
If someone could please tell me about this keyboard, I would be forever grateful. I see there are other keyboards on sales, too, but they are quite a bit cheaper than this one. I don't even know what the difference between a "manual" keyboard and this one is... DAH?
Thank you, Brenda

Somewhere I thought I read one person taking his keyboard apart and applying grease. He then said that the keyboard felt a lot smoother. It must have been a different brand. I have been looking at all sorts of keyboards these past few days. I didn't realize there was a keyboard heaven, but I think I have found it. In the past, I've just gone to big box stores and tried to pick something that felt like I could tolerate it, but that was also based upon what was left on their shelves. :( And of course, big box stores, or at least around here, don't carry anything that is high end. High end to them wouldn't even make it to MassDrop.
Going to place my order right now. Thanks, everyone, for helping me. When I originally posted, I didn't mean it to sound as snarky as I'm sure it did. It was an honest question, because I've just used whatever kind of keyboards I could find locally, or online in a pc store.
MANY THANKS, everyone!

brenda52411"Lubing the sliders" is a fairly common practice among those trying to get the most out of their keyboard. Often also doing other modifications, like adding silencers, swapping keycaps, and other mods even I'm not that familiar with. The effectiveness certain varies based on the existing keyboard, like I would definitely lube sliders on certain brands of MX switches, and any Topre board that wasn't Realforce, Leopold, or HHKB.
Sadly, all the good keyboard stores are in Korea and Japan, where Leopold and Filco sit alongside other international brands.
Best of luck in your future endeavours! If you ever want to see the real insanity of this community, you can just stop by r/mechanicalkeyboards to gawk!

Dear mechanical keyboards enthusiasts, is this a good price for a Topre keyboard? I know that it is already cheaper than the market price of this keyboard, but should I expect another topre keyboard massdrop for a better price anytime soon? I really want to buy myself a Topre capacitative keyboard to check it out, but I dont want to spend fortune on something that I might end up not using too often, thanks in advance for any help!

YoroiiThis was/is a good price for the 87u. However, R2 are already available in the states so basically this just seems like a way to get rid of back stock. You can buy directly from Realforce & HHKB owned company Fujitsu here: https://fujitsuscannerstore.com/keyboards/realforce-keyboard/ You can't go wrong either way. This R1 has the classic Realforce look with some minor issues like stabilizer rattle which is greatly reduced in the R2, where the frame has sharper lines. It comes down to preference honestly. Hope that helps!

letzeYeah, I'm trying really hard to be patient but we're coming up to a week past the estimated shipping date and it would be nice to get an understanding of what is causing the delays. The last update was very vague, and I wouldn't think it takes a week to get shipping details from the vendor. I would appreciate it if the estimated shipping date was updated.
