TaeguronI can't compare them, I don't own this. I have at least 6 Leathermans. The new Wave is probably my favorite. The Surge and Skeletool are very close. I like these better than my Gerber Diesel (USA). I never felt the urge to switch from Leatherman. I took my hearing aid apart after it got wet, using the Wave. SAK are good. (I have one of their old basic models.) Leatherman is better.
I've owned many tools of both brands. Sold every Leatherman over time, still have every SwissTool - and every one despite hard use could pass as new. I keep one in every vehicle and a few in the shop and around the house.
I have absolutely no idea what you are on about saying Victorinox has durability issues. At this point they're going to end up heirlooms if they aren't somehow lost. I don't know what I could possibly do to them which could harm them.
The fit and finish on SwissTools is miles ahead of Leatherman and does not worsen with time and use. Leatherman tolerances get looser with time in my experience. Every tool on a SwissTool locks via a far superior and safer mechanism than Leatherman has (and some Leatherman models don't have locks, or only lock some tools) - my fingers are worth the better mechanism. The only issue is they demand a premium price, but you get what you pay for.
I have one of these tools, they are fantastic. The Spirit is mid-sized, larger than a Leatherman Juice S2 but smaller than a full sized tool. They are built better, IMHO, than the Leatherman tools as well.
Thanks! Think I'll go for the non-seratted version also (elsewhere). Not until next month though as I'm waiting for a couple of Bark Rivers from knivesshipfree & don't want divorce proceedings to start... ;-)
These are very highly rated in reviews. Better than Leatherman, etc. They have been labeled the "Mercedes Benz of Multi-tools". I have no doubt these are very high quality! Made in Switzerland too!
For what it's worth, I've had my victorinox multi-tool for around 15-16 years now. I was ten when I got it and it's holding up wonderfully. I honestly can't imagine my life without it.
I also have this tool. Very nice price. If I needed one I'd buy this today.
Between the Swiss Tool Spirit and Leatherman Wave, the Spirit is better finished and higher quality, lighter and thinner with fewer tools for similar money. The Wave is high quality, has a serrated "butter knife" similar to the Swiss Tool's, but adds a nice clip point straight locking blade. Also has a little socket set. If you don't mind more bulk and want the extra tools, carry a tool like the Wave. If you want to maximize utility per ounce and have sparkling fit and finish, the Swiss Tool is for you.
I carry the Swiss Tool and have the Wave in my bug-out bag.
Does the mini box opener blade have a locking mechanism. I wonder if even that would be an issue carrying in NY. Some cops may even have issue with the saws.
WebDudeYeah I thought the same. My guess is its design intent was "You have a flip/full-tang knife already, so here's everything else you need to MacGyver in style"
I received mine today and to my surprise the leather sheath is frigging velcro! Man what a way to screw up a nice holster. I cringe every time I open it.
I love everything else about it - very high quality. I'll be in the market for a nice form fitting leather pouch with a button snap.
