We did not expect such a rush for this drop.... Vendor quoted us 100 units for this drop originally - we're working with them to see if we can reopen this asap.
Sorry about the confusion + thanks guys!
Shout out to Massdrop for not indicating that this drop was limited quantities! I waited for just a little more info, and now it's no longer available. Great job!
no idea, could ask on discord. they usually either sell assembled boards, or will assemble a board for you for a bit extra. they do really good work from what ive seen
scurtisJTFR: I just found an open browser tab which showed the drop at 75 sold devices: And it said _nothing_ at all about a limit back then:
search
And 24 sales later, it said "99 sold (1 left)". So adding or showing that limit only after 75% have been sold sounds not that nice to me. No wonder that nobody knew about it and everyone's complaining now!
@lewis0014: Thanks for clarifying its origin!
Since it is designed by KBDfans.cn and approximately at the size of 60% cases (given due to its similarity with the XD75), does that mean that the PCB and plate would also fit into KBDfans.cn's 5⁰ cases? (I'm asking, because that would be awesome! :-)
xygoteYou can flash the keyboard without access to physical reset button - even for the first time - before programming one of the keys as "reset" using QMK. The method is as follow:
unplug the keyboard
press and hold the key on top left corner (where ESC usually is)
plug your keyboard back (while still holding the key).
It should be ready for flashing. It worked for me with IDOBO keyboard, which is a clone of XD75, so I assume/hope it should be the same here.
Ytropekthanks a lot brother. This also worked for me in the Idobo board from Aliexpress in 2021 feb.
press esc and plug in the usb for reset.
then i compiled the default75 keymap and flashed without any issue
DO NOT FLASH YOUR BOARD WITH THE QMK "XD75" LAYOUT!!!The key matrix does not appear to work with this PCB, and as a result you will brick your board. The board can be re-flashed, but at this point it is unclear where the default firmware is coming from. If you want to tweak the firmware, sit tight with the default one and keep an eye on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/9ud0jr/help_flashing_xd75_from_md/
If you're feeling adventurous, we'd appreciate the help trying to reverse engineer the firmware :)
Lots of complaints, jeesh! Sure, MassDrop could have provided slightly more information but if the details are not provided you've got to consider the possibility that they have excluded certain specifics for a reason. If you think about; MassDrop's primary feature is brief windows of product opportunity. If you like what you see, join the drop. If you don't like their business plan, why do you shop here? Stop complaining and start shopping.
KeeblurKeeblur this is such a bad perspective. Why should people have to settle for substandard service and insufficient information? Like, some people might be fine with that but those who aren't have every right to complain and ask questions and the sellers should listen and respond if they want repeat customers. They might sell a bunch anyway but I can guarantee you they'd sell far more if they were upfront about the details of the product.
MD shouldn't be a blind gamble. The deals would have to be WAY better than they are to justify that poor level of service.
I'm sorry I'm really not trying to laugh at your misfortune but holy crap that is FUNNY. I've got a keycap set coming with mine as well, so looks like I get to laugh about it again in the not too distant future.
wtoeThats a miss on our side, we initially thought it was xd75, but it was later clarified as different. However - URL cannot be modified due to system limitations.
I'm still waiting after months, poor communication and a lot of delays 2 keyboards. I wanted this keyboard, but I will skip the GB after the really bad management of the Planck GB in Massdrop (too) https://www.massdrop.com/buy/planck-mechanical-keyboard/talk#discussions.
After the really bad communication (delays are ok, the poor professionalism not) I CAN'T RECOMMEND YOU to buy this item
Nope, you're mixing different things. As you can read in my first message (where says " delays are ok, the poor professionalism not") the problem is not the manufacturer. Since you have took time to talk about it, I will explain you a little thing.
Massdrop, as company, is not humanitarian volunteers staff, they are working to make money. That's a good thing. The problem is the professionalism when working.
All Drops have delays, ALL. The problem comes when the Massdrop staff ignore during weeks (in the middle of the delay) hundred of customers asking for some feedback to know what's happening. Weeks, not days. Weeks.
At the same time, the same staff is supporting new drops and answering doubts in the new drops every day, meanwhile, people waiting for some words during weeks (weeks, not days, weeks). That means that the staff is available to support you when it means to make more new money, but not if you already paid other drops and nobody is giving feedback to the community.
So, again, the problem is not the delay, is the 0 communication from the Massdrop staff. So, that means as a customer of Massdrop I can give my feedback and not recommend MK drops (I was in other drops not related to MK where the staff works pretty good).
FYI, today, after weeks, a lot of customers still waiting some feedback and some response from their Massdrop tickets (not manufacturer tickets). For that reason, some customers (like me, I'm not the unique one) are exposing the situation in other drops to alert new customer about the situation, since a new customer you are interested in the post-paid customer support.
An example of a good way of managing delays could be this one (as a lot of other cases, of course) https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/8zf629/espectro_gb_has_apparently_been_called_off_dave/
All my support for the manufacturer, and if he creates a GB out of MD I promise that he can count with my wallet (and probably with the others affected Massdrop customers wallets), but is important to alert new customer about the Massdrop post sales service: 0 communication.
===================================================================================
I hope now I more clear the reason of my (and other customers) messages talking about not recommending MK drops today.
skozzMassdrop says they are working to improve their communication. But no question they still have a long way to go.
Case in point is this drop. I was planning to join if it had Kailh hot-swap and a plate, and I (and many others) were asking these and other questions in this discussion. But no answers. I hate to think the reason MD did not clarify was that 100 people were sure to order without answers, but what else could be their reason? I am VERY unhappy at the moment.
Criticism and warnings are often interpreted as trolling (case in point jscrub, although he took it WAY beyond reasonable), but these messages are not unfounded.
