Compact enough to fit in most kitchens, the Zojirushi rice cooker is capable of much more than cooking standard white rice. Use it to cook up to 3 cups of sushi rice, brown rice, GABA brown rice, steel cut oatmeal, and more in no time Read More
For anyone wondering yes this model is made in China but that isn't a bad thing when it comes to trusted brands like Zojirushi, the whole Made in China stereotype is nothing like it used to be.
I personally don't have one but my brother does and has used it for years cooking rice almost daily, great product.
This is a crazy good rice cooker. I didn’t know that I could make rice this good at home. There’s not that awful crunchy layer at the bottom that has to be cleaned. I’m getting extras for gifts!!
What makes this any different from something far less expensive like my Aroma brand rice cooker/steamer/slow cooker thing?
It's just a dedicated bowl & heating element, plus a fancy feature or two (mine has "smart steam" to set a time to steam which only starts counting down when boiling temperature is reached), right? What makes this a $120 purchase?
The cheap $10~$30 rice cookers typically use more of a weight sensor to judge how much water/moisture is left in the rice cooker. This is why many of them frequently lightly burn rice in the bottom of the pot when they have a thin aluminum bowl.
As a data scientist/statistician I just wanted to add that to a certain extent fuzzy logic is hype. It is very rules based but it looks like Zojirushi (and other rice cooker manufactures) have it right for this application. I am sure other people into data will disagree but IMO it is not a be all and end all algorithm. None are really.
While I don't have this exact model, I have the 10-cup Induction model and the cheaper 3-cup regular model. My 3-cup works exceptionally well and is just right for me, a single household. Instead of 6~10 cups sitting on warm, I have 2~3 fresh and ready to go whenever I want rice.
Everything I have from the Zojirushi brand (coffee maker, hot pot, two rice cookers) has been very pleasing to use, easy to clean, and simply a superior product to the competition. They do cost a bit more than competitors but, to me the extra cost is more than offset by superior cooking results.
SidPostThis is true. The 3 cup models are best for making fresh rice every day. That's for sure the best way to eat rice.
For me, though, the larger models, 5 to 10 cups, are far more practical. While the rice is fresh only the first time, I'll have left over rice stored in the fridge for quick meals lasting a few days afterwards.
That just works better for me as my time is really limited.
Of course, fresh rice is the best way to go if you can make a fresh batch every day.
So both the smaller and larger models have their good uses depending on your needs.
I, myself, would love to see a drop for the 10 cup induction model. At a good discount, of course.
will using this over cheaper cookers prevent that aweful cake/sheet of rice at the bottom/sides that i inavariably have to throw away EVERY damned time i make rice?
TjPhysicistzojirushi is like the creme de la creme as far as rice cookers go.
I bought one years ago, one of the higher end models I think it was ~$300. I enjoy it a lot. Before this I had 5 rice cookers, all that break and wear out. So if each rice cooker was ~$20 then I wasted $100 on replacing cheap rice cookers. Don't get me wrong, I bought new and returned the burned out ones 2 times but there comes a time to upgrade to something that isn't garbage.
I don't know if this zojirushi has it, I'm assuming it does, but I set a timer on mine to have rice made for the morning.
But it looks like Amazon is going to be your goto for this.
