Glad to see more 8bitdo drops. Their SNES Pro controller comes out this holiday season. I'm personally waiting for that model (dual analog and r2 l2 buttons/triggers added). I hope we'll see a drop for that when it's available.
Damn, I was looking for any info regarding the new ones. I'm trying to decide whether or not to join this drop, but the L2/R2 design is a deal breaker for me. I've heard great things about these controllers though, so I'd almost be willing to give it a shot.
Miph120Yeah I'm hoping a quality youtuber gets one right away and does a thorough review. I'll almost certainly pass if it doesn't have the standard bumper trigger layout though. Something like dual shock 2 even would be fine, although an analog trigger with even a small bit of throw distance would be amazing.
Beware: These controllers have significant issues with latency/button travel that is essentially a design issue.
Games such as super mario, platforms, fighting games can be almost unplayable due to the delay when pressing the button to the command issuing.
Using one of the SFC30s with my phone mates certain games impossible. No such issues with other Bluetooth controllers like the 'drone'.
This includes being on the newest firmware and with only Bluetooth enabled.
Just tried again to give it the benefit of doubt. To my surprise, it appeared on the Retroarch prompt and it worked-- for 10 seconds. Removing and reconnecting made it show up for a few seconds, but now it's not even being recognized. Yep, this controller is still shit.
The "windows USB cable mode" as it's called in the manual doesn't state compatibility with other systems so I imagine that is the problem. ALL my other USB devices work perfectly no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect, even the cheapest $10 USB retro clones.
Stay away from this controller if you want reliability.
Teliosyikes, thanks for the heads up. I had only heard good things about 8bitdo and loved their designs. Hopefully they get their shit together in time for the SFC30pro release, otherwise I'll hold off..
Hello All,
There was a mix up on the product photos earlier that caused the SNES30 image to be switched with the SFC30 image and we wanted to let you know so you can make an informed decision.
The correct images have been put in the proper places but please check to make sure you ordered the correct unit.
JuntaoUpdate: I just got it in the mail today (SNES30) and it almost feels exactly like the original controller. The D-pad and shoulder buttons feel a bit stiff but other than that its great! There is a slight input lag when using the Bluetooth so games like Super Mario is frustrating to play until you get use to it, but once you plug it in to your computer with the USB cable there is no lag at all. IMO its worth it!
I wonder if it will work with a micro USB to micro USB cable on my phone so I don't have to worry about any input lags. Might have to order one to test it out.
Update Pt2: The controller might not come with the latest firmware so make sure to go to the 8Bitdo website to download it. After I did that the Bluetooth issue was gone and games worked smoothly!
JuntaoYou should be able to use a USB Micro OTG cable to connect it directly to a phone/tablet.
As far as I can tell, it shows up like an Xbox360 pad (USB HID).
I don't know if their fancy drivers support direct connection; but a number of unity-based android games definitely do.
davorbThat's a solid tip! And to boot: no taxes either. Sorry MD, but when the shipping is THIS high I'll look elsewhere. I seriously don't get it either: the last 8bitdo controller was a lot cheaper with shipping
