*last update*
I finally received a complete product. Thank you to Alpha & Delta customer service!
short version:
The gist of my experience is:
1st headphones were used
replacement headphones came in a moldy box with moldy case
a little too bright
microphonic cable
overall poor experience with a drop that I thoroughly regret participating in
longer version:
So a few initial observations.
1) the box and the leather carry pouch both have mold growing in them
2) due to the mold, everything has a foul smell to it
3) after thoroughly cleaning with alcohol, I was finally able to listen to the IEMs I originally purchased in July (it is late September now)
They are a little bright. I’d say bright/balanced, but they are missing a little too much weight in the low end. Not unpleasant sounding, but definitely need some eq to bring up everything below 200hz-ish.
I don’t mind that the cord is permanently attached, but it is quite microphonic and a bit rigid.
These are destined for donation, or life in a drawer if I don’t get to that in the near term.
updated review
The first pair I received was an obvious used pair that had been a return. The box was open, most of the items were missing, and the ear tips were a little... dirty.
I got into contact with Alpha & Delta asked me to send them that pair back and would send me a new pair. I have shipped the bad ones back and am waiting to hear when I should expect a new pair. At this point I am out the cost of the IEMs and return shipping. I will update when I receive a new pair.
For sub-$50 IEMs, it's hard to imagine doing better than these. I listen to mostly pop and rock, and I have no complaints. Could there be a bit more bass? I suppose, but it's not as if bass is lacking, and for what I listen to, it's punchy and clean, which is how I like it. Definitely recommend for first IEMs or for anyone who wants a really good sounding cheap set that won't be a massive loss if they get stolen.
Was slightly hesitant to buy initially but decided to take the plunge after reading all the positive reviews. Didn't expect such good sound and build quality for the price!
I've really enjoyed using these at home but am just wondering if it's just me or they don't isolate as well as some other IEMs perhaps? Feel like I'm losing quite a bit of the lower frequencies commuting on the bus (unfortunately my favorite seat is nearer to the engine). Still deserves the 5 stars though!
Sound is not bad for this price. Good build quality with leather case.
Treble is bright and melodious but less bass for me.
I will burn-in dozens of hours, after that try it again.
Good quality earphones. Good case supplied with plenty of replacement buds. Only issue I have had so far is that they are quite bulky and heavy which isn't an issue for my office application
Very well put together IEM's, particularly the excellent cable. Comes with enough tips that you should be able to find a good fit (note that if you prefer foam there is only one size of those provided). Overall they sound good, great midrange and treble but decidedly weak in the bass.
