Fact is that they were sold at $100-130 and there was a profit to be had. I bought one then and IMO it was worth the price.
There's no way I'd pay twice as much at $215-$240.
Seems like a really cool idea but the price isn't right. A gently used Mont Blanc roller ball can be had for ~$150. Hopefully he finds a way to make the pen cheaper by mass producing it. If the price was under $100 I think it would be a huge hit.
Not complaining, nor saying anything intrinsic about the price, but, why is this so much? Just trying to understand as a decently new entrant into the area of fine writing implements.
KuztomizedNever said nor implied that you were attacking, so not sure where that came from. But the answer was less than appropriate. Sometimes less is more, and in the case of this particular humor, I think that applies. ;)
I gotta say, Massdrop, you guys really need to rethink your shipping process/partners. I realize this isn't Amazon Prime. And I understand that nothing from Massdrop comes quickly, but shipping via FedEx SmartPost is ridiculously slow and unpredictable. My pen was scheduled for delivery on Tuesday.
FedEx had it in my state, about 2 hours from my home on Monday, then sent it to Atlanta to their hub, where it was transferred to USPS who then brought it back to South Carolina and it has now been sitting at the USPS hub about an hour from my house for two days and has been rescheduled multiple times.
Priority Mail would have had it here in 2-3 days anywhere in the US. Standard FedEx ground would have had it here in probably 5 days or less. These may have even been light enough to go First Class Mail.
I've talked about this on drops in the past when you used DHL and it took nearly three weeks for a drop to arrive and was lost in the mail for nearly a week of that time with both DHL and USPS washing their hands of it.
I've gotten to the point where I'm only supporting drops that are really special (like this one) because the shipping takes so long and, in all honesty, the discount isn't usually large enough to offset the long wait times that are made even longer by multi-carrier shipping options.
Innovative!! This is a Hall of Fame Moment for Massdrop! They have been nominated now in two categories: Innovative Order Disruption and Largest Box for Smallest Item! Congrats guys!! WooWoo!
well considering you've replied to every post here i can tell youre a big fan of this product. no issue there i don't doubt its a good pen, but its definitely more tactical looking than most pens that are meant to be pocket jewellery. there's no polished bits, its all tumbled/sand blasted. deep grooves meant for function. no finishing on the edge of the pocket clips. just because this is less tactical vs a boker glass breaker pen doesn't mean its not more utilitarian looking. especially compared to the caran ecridor i mentioned.
billcAgreed, billc. Massdrop totally misrepresented this in the email. Not that there's anything wrong with nickel plate but I would not have clicked through for it.
Nick Shabazz did a review of this pen on his Youtube channel. (he actually did two, look at the second one showing both the Electroless Nickel Plated and Titanium versions) in it he shows the different marks. The Prometheus Writes website also makes clear that they are no longer manufactured in-house and are manufactured at Hirsch...I know I have one that was made at Hirsch and it is stellar....It's a great design/functioning pen and I'm sure that Prometheus is equally attentive to manufacturing controls---be it in-house or contracted down the street---as they are to design. Prometheus and Hirsch are both located in California--Bay Area...
I have 3 of these pens purchased in the kickstarter round. They are GREAT pens - a real pleasure to write with and hold. My only issue here is that there's a TEENY discount over his website. Not a discount of any appreciable degree. Jason does amazing work, no lie. Better discount needed here.
