First impressions are highly favorable.
Let me start by saying I'm still in the evaluation process with the Aune S7 Pro. I received it about two weeks ago, and have spent the better part of the past 10 days just burning-in the circuits (experience has taught me to never judge any audio equipment before proper burn-in). That said, right out of the box, the S7 Pro impresses. I really like the design, the choice of exterior materials is top notch with great feel and ergonomics. Aune has come a long way since it's earlier days in Chi-Fi. This unit could easily pass for something out of California. My first listen was pleasing. Everything sounded right. My criteria are clarity/resolution/detail, dynamics, depth, silence PRaT, all the good stuff. The S7 Pro has it all. It also has headroom which is important to someone like me who likes his music loud with high-impedance 'phones. Really nice overall I thought. Next, I compared it to some other equipment I am testing out: the Monolith THX 888 AAA, an old no-name but great sounding, built-like-a-tank Chi-Fi head amp I've owned for many years, and the wonderful Peachtree Audio Nova 300 integrated amp with one of the best headphone amps I've heard in a long time. All of these sound great, no big complaints with any of them. But, it was the S7 Pro I kept going back to. It really satisifies. And, at the current price of $400, it's a super bargain. It's also spoiled me for balanced output. I can't go back to single-ended now. Will the S7 Pro remain in my collection? Highly likely. My guess is it's going to get even better with more serious listening, and, so far, I can't find a reason to look for anything better anywhere near this price.

Might be Defective, Outstanding Sound
I have owned a variety of amps, including a Schiit Jotunheim and an SMSL SP200, and this amp blows them out of the water in terms of sound. The soundstage is much more "holographic," the bass does not decrease disproportionately at lower volumes, it has great detail retrieval, and it never comes off as sibilant compared to other amps. Using the S7 with my Beyerdynamic T1.2's and UE 18 Pro's has been a joy. However, there are two things keeping me from giving this amp 5 stars. First, there is some channel balance at lower volumes. The min of the volume knob is at about 7 o'clock, the sound kicks in at about 7:30, and the left and right channels are unbalanced until about 8 o'clock. The channel imbalance is not as bad as it was on the SP200, but it is there nonetheless. Next, and much more importantly (to me), is that the volume knob is a little wobbly and as a result, when I turn it the knob will grind against where it's seated leading it to be very scratchy and even stick in place at times. Honestly, it's so bad that I think it is likely a defective unit. If this amp didn't sound so good, this would lead me to give it a horrible review and only 1 or 2 stars. However, because of how much better it sounds than everything else I've tried, I recommend it.
