These things are horrible. They trick you by being a tone suck when plugged in, but not on. Then when you turn it back on, it magically sounds like it should, plus it's a two band eq boost. I know this because I own one. Here is a link to another BBE sonic maximizer that does the same thing.

I already own this but I have to say this definitely can enhance the sound of whatever you're playing. It's hard to describe but it definitely adds clarity to the sound... Well worth the $49 at least...
