The Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros are some of the worst headphones ever created. The bass switch is a useless gimmick and the cans sound fundamentally bad. They have that same nasty tonality as the Sennheiser Momentum 1.0s, but worse and more emphasized. They're a stain on Beyerdynamic. And look closely at the cable, it's a proprietary fat plastic end with a special lock that you can't easily swap with other cables, and the Custom One Pros are notorious for poor quality control and broken cables that lose audio on one side. These are one of those cans where if someone positively reviews them, I know I'll never align with that reviewer and won't trust them anymore.

dm94aq7I agree on the tonality part. Yes, they have some issues. I got an aftermarket cable. I have tried a couple of pads on them too. Still trying to see how to make em sound good. I'll update if I'm able to at any point. Yes, I am talking about THESE not the One Pro... but the Custom Studio.

dm94aq7I own the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros.... The "bass switch" actually effects the amount of low end you get. Sure they are not the best sounding headphones out there, but they are far from being bad. Aftermarket cables fit fine, I use the V-MODA BoomPro Microphone cable to use them while talking with people and playing games. Far better option then the majority of "gaming headphones" out there. I have owned them since early 2013, I work overseas in a war zone, they get tossed in to my backpack and used on a regularly. No problems with failures or any thing breaking. Just a point of view from someone who's uses the Custom One Pros daily...

a shame Drop didn't add in a pack of face plates and/or an extra (non-coiled) cable with this drop, it would have made the month wait to save $20 a lot more attractive, imo. (if they somehow negotiate that before the drop ends, count me in.)

opeth and type o neg, sweet. your prints look great, nice work! :) for personal customization, you definitely have the right idea. i'm just thinking that for the drop to be more successful, Drop needs to incentivize stuff better. 10% off retail isn't worth a month long wait to some folks, esp for a 3 year old headphone. plates and cables would be a nice lagniappe to compel fence-sitters like me. ;)

motodYeah it's not much of a discount ..
Arent these the Custom One rebranded? I was a fan of these for a minute but I checked them out next to the DT770 (flat with a 4k notch) and DT990 (v shaped repsonse) and they are not as good as those. These are cans for teens.

CalaverasgrandeThe Custom One Pro is 16 ohm, these are 80. Apart from that they’re probably quite similar.

Calaverasgrande"These are cans for teens" I can't argue the demographic Beyer targeted with their release of the Custom One and Custom One Pro

but you're mistaken if you even consider Beyerdynamic would just 'rebrand' these cans, slap the word studio on there and call it a day. The frequency response graphs look identical, but I've tried both (own the Custom Studio) and I promise you there will have been a lot of driver tuning because these two sound nothing alike. The COP is basically only usable completely closed and perhaps with one bass port open. I say this as a person who really likes bass (planar bass mostly). Sliding the bass ports even further open will result in a completely muddy mess where I can't even start to comprehend what music you must listen to think this is somehow an enhancement. The Custom Studio on the other hand is as neutral you'll ever find a headphone. Even with all the bass ports open, it's not bassier than let's say a HD650 ? It's punchy, you'll hear it but you will never feel it. Custom One Pro (plus) : Frequency response . . . . . . . . . . 5 Hz - 35,000 Hz Nominal impedance. . . . . . . . . . 16 Ω

I've tried every model of DT770, DT880, and DT990, along with the Custom One Pro and Custom Street. The Custom One Pro sound very similar to the DT770, but the COP has more bass and the DT770 has that fun, hollow plastic acoustics. The Custom Studio NEVER goes on sale, and it's always at $199. A twenty dollar discount does not sway me, however, when the Custom Game is a 16 ohm equivalent with a mic that goes for under $150 sometimes. Th Custom Studio just has velour pads. I would say get these if you don't want the fun DT770 sound and prefer detachable cable. For me, the exposed wires in the headband mean I will not wear Beyerdynamics out anyways, so the DT770 80 ohm on sale for $130 was a better deal, and having a detachable cable is not worth an extra $50. For $20 more, sure. These should drop at $150.

Only thing I can think of for that rationale is living in an area where there's a realistic worry about somebody snipping them to be a dick...but if that's the case, you've got bigger problems.

LG23I just worry I'll snatch them up after placing them down one day and I'll rip the cable. Also I hike sometimes, I don't want a branch catching on the wires.

I’ve got a pair of DT770’s at work which I don’t really like (I find them fatiguing/harsh at the top end, among other things). how do these compare?

I have Dekoni sheepskin pads. Definitely don’t help. Perhaps they reduce upper freq response (but that I didn’t notice) - what I did notice was that all transients got snappier. This was a welcome improvement to the flabby bass, but made the treble region snap harder too 🤷‍♂️

phosfiendSorry to hear that! I wasn't super huge on the dt 770. They definitely do some stuff well but I wasn't huge on the mids in particular so I sent them back at 25 days through amazon (80 ohm and a hard decision because they were the best I'd heard at the time). I should have clarified I didn't get to test the dt pads with the 700 ( i have all the dt pads for me dt 1990 for fun) and was going off of a guess based on what I remembered.

daveemacYea maybe $150, it's not even balanced.
daveemacYeah, they're always $199 on Amazon, and a my account gives me 5% back, so that's only (effectively) a $10 discount. Knowing these come with a coiled cable, a package with a replacement cable for $180 would've been perfect.

ArjestinThey'd have to sound a lot worse for me to not want to go with these as personal preference, every headphone I've broken has always broken in the cord first. because of this I always buy detachable cable headphones. These are the cheapest beyers I've seen that have a detachable cable. I might just spend the extra 20 bucks to get them in one day from amazon

I certainly like the idea of a tunable bass closed-back headphone. It would be nice to turn the bass up during the day while gaming or listening to exciting music then turn it down at night for easy listening. If I didn't already have a few more headphones than I really needed (but my fellow audio enthusiasts understand that we don't really "need" but "want" don't we?) I'd jump on this drop straight away. Maybe for the next time :)
I used to live a block from a headphone, home hifi, messenger bag store on Valencia in San Francisco. Can't recall the name but it's a block from Paxton Gate. They had these, the DT770 and the usual Audio Technica and other lifestyle brands. I wanted to like these, because I really like heavy bass on hip hop and heavy metal. Not so much on classical, jazz and ambient electronic. However the sound gave me the impression that there is no acoustic damping material in the cavity behind the driver. Very boxy and unpleasant. The DT770 has that telltale 4k notch. But it is a very narrow notch, and I actually like the sound of those. Honestly my favorite headphones for sound always end up being open back models that don't fold. AKG 240M, Grado SR80e etc. I wish I could find some solid closed back cans that compare.

CalaverasgrandeGive the DT990 pros a try sometime. They have somewhat recessed mids, intense treble, and a good amount of bass. I use them daily, the open back design gives a nice large soundstage too.

CalaverasgrandeRecently purchased the dt770 and hifi 4xx. Earstudio es100 will take the dt770 to very manageable levels. Paired with all my headphones including ath ad700x and m50x, I have no complaints. Hifiman 4xx is sublime paired with es100, but lacks the thump of the dt770.
