Product Description
While many headphones make you choose between an open- and closed-back construction, the Beyerdynamic DT880 splits the difference with a semi-open design that allows for increased airflow and a wider soundstage. They bring full depth and excitement to the entire range, with a smooth, extended treble; a transparent, detailed midrange; and a punchy, layered bass Read More

Could Drop modify these headphones to have detachable cables, compatible with balanced outputs, and sell them like that? Cause that's exactly what this pair needs and it would be dope af. #CollabMassdropBeyerdynamicDetachableCable

I didn't know soft ear pads were a spec. So that must mean all the headphones that don't list that have hard, uncomfortable earpads

Between my Sennheiser hd598 and these. The Beyerdynamic is way more comfy, stylish and better build quality. I have Senn 6XX on the way but I’m still thinking I will feel the same way about build, looks and comfort.

Change the HD6XXear cup into Dekoni hybrid pads and I couldn’t be happier. Comfortable and looks great from outside to the inside.

Massdrop need to edit the title. This unit is the "premium" version.
EDIT : Also the specs, it says 32 ohm instead of 600 ohm.

Not absolutely sure, but I think 600 because the note and title say 600-Ohms. I think the specs say 32-Ohms because they just copy/pasted the specs from a different drop or Beyers' site.

Yeah i know, but DT880s are for my taste a little too "boring" as they are too neutral (much better for mixing tho). The DT990s are more "fun" lets say. Ofc everyone to his taste.

I can buy these on amazon for $170 so why would I buy them here? For a group buy the price needs to be much lower like $150.

DT880 (especially the 600 Ω version, if powered with powerful enough amp) are reported to be less bright than their DT990 counterpart. They have more flat & steadily rising frequency response curve than DT990s which have it more V-shaped. So they have less but still good & clear bass, and less treble & aren't piercing as often, but are still very clear, and their mids are well placed. Do not even hope to use DT880 600 Ω without proper AMP/DAC setup, meaning you can't use them with mobile devices etc at all, because even if you do get some sound out of them, it won't be of good quality. It can't be just any AMP either, since if it won't supply enough power for these you will be under the impression that they are unimpressive even though you can hear them at normal volumes. Apparently not all people who reviewed these had the proper setup for this picky pair of headphones, but if I am to believe Zeos, they require an AMP able to deliver around 500mW (0,5W) per channel at 600 Ω (look for it in the amp's specs and pay attention that it applies to the type of output you will be using, ie. single ended vs balanced). Since these headphones unfortunately have non detachable, single ended cable, the choice of a proper amp is limited (Emotiva BasX A-100 supposedly works very well for exapmle, but it's actually a speaker amp). Unless you decide to diy mod them to have balanced cable, in which case the balanced outputs on amps can be used, and these are usually much more powerful than their single ended sisters. So if DT880 are modded more amps should be able to power them, but amps with powerful/balanced outputs tend not to be cheap. In other words, a necessary amp is likely to be at least a bit more expensive than these headphones by themselves, so if you want to take advantage of them you better include it into the price (unless you already own them), but such setup is said to blow you away with what detail & energy (somehow not directly dependent on loudness) it will allow you to hear.
