Named Backpacker Magazine’s Editors’ Choice in 2012, the Boreas Lost Coast is a lightweight technical pack for multi-day backcountry adventures. The rib-cage construction helps the pack maintain its structure while carrying a load, and the specially molded and perforated EVA Z-foam back panel increases airflow for mile-after-mile comfort Read More
I have a waterproof arc’teryx pack with the rotating back plate on the harness. It’s really comfortable but heavy. Is it worth getting a much lighter pack?
MelbournewomanIt really depends on what you are carrying and where you are hiking and what conditions you expect. I sold my Osprey but kept my two Boreas (45L and 60L) and my Gregory (85L). I almost never (just the once) use the Gregory as the lighter Boreas are more than enough.
I submitted a query while the drop was active, to Boreas, using the only contact info that was available at the website, which was an email address. I received a reply just now;

ChimpsmithI'm 5' 10" , 40" chest and 38" waist. I use the L and from the size differences I've seen from Boreas there is very little between M & L. It's an awesome backpack BTW. I have both the 45L and 60L (again virtually no difference - just a little longer neck I guess gains that extra packing space - but the rest of the bag seems identical) and would buy another Boreas in the blink of an eye, so many nice little, innovative, touches (I had Osprey and Gregory before).
Does anyone know if the strap over the water bottle pocket can be rerouted beneath the pocket? Also is anyone familiar with the fidlock system? That's a little something that I found while scouring for info on the Boreas site... Also the video is very helpful, but doesn't cover everything. What is a ribcage? Apparently it has something to do with the horizontal shallow v-shaped seams on the front panel.
this_is_my_massdrop_usernameIt has the hidden daisy chains which run right to the bottom of the front of the pack. You could easily utilise these to attach a pad.
