HEADS UPRemoving the thin layer of PU on Brainwavz pads reveals in a thinly-stitched cloth material surrounding the foam. Using the pads in this state produces shocking results. I would go so far as to say that this is one of the most important discoveries in headphone pad history. (And I say this with considerable experience in pad-swapping.)
Warm/dark/veiled headphones are brought to life. The perceived sound alterations compared to using velour pads: increased treble, detail, soundstage, and reduced upper bass/lower mids.
The trick is removing the PU. Fortunately, I had an old pair of pads and was able to flake-off the PU. Anyone have any thoughts on how to dissolve/remove the PU without harming the rest of the pad?
