Product Description
Delivering exceptional audio, the fourth-generation A5.5 floor speaker from Chane features three SplitGap (XLB2) 5.25-inch midwoofers for plenty of headroom and lower distortion, plus a special matching 5.25-inch midrange driver, which makes the A5.5 Chane's only three-way model. A pro-derived planar leaf tweeter with a molded aluminum lens extends response beyond 30 kHz, while a custom crossover network ensures the A5.5's most linear response yet Read More
The A5.5's three SplitGap woofers displace considerably more air than a pair of conventional drivers of the same size, while its planar treble extends well past a typical dome tweeter. The rest is all design and tuning, areas where this model has always gotten high marks.
These speakers are phenomenal for the price. We have the A5s as fronts, A2.4 center, A3's as rears. Replaced JBL's pro series monitors and some Klipsch with these and it was like the JBLs has socks over the speakers. These image extremely well for the price, are fast, and reach surprisingly deep for the narrow design. That said, they need a sub for true HT or electronic music. We paired them with a PSA dual 18 and it matched perfectly (PSA's 18 is fast enough to keep up with these). They are somewhat directional given the ribbons, but not an issue with our setup. Highly recommend.
You can email Jon at Chane directly with questions on setup, placement, layout, or go to their forums, and he is always personally helpful. We have been a customer for many years, since the first Arx models.
TonicartDrop's check-out page allows the buyer can select the quantity desired. Some may want a matching center speaker and buy three. Or perhaps they buyer already has a pair and wants just one more.
jloloOh yes. The XBL^2 design throws very hard, I'd say they dig nicely down to 50-60hz or so. I'm unsure where the rolloff is, but if you are using movie sources that go down to < 10hz (BSG or Tron soundtrack) you will benefit from a sub. Same with music like Skrillex. If you are just listening to Jazz or Classic rock, these sing and I run them in pure stereo direct mode.
Interesting... XBL2 is really good technology for woofers. This seems like a great deal, although the description of the crossover sounds VERY dodgy. Drop: if you're trying to break into the audiophile market, you need copy that doesn't raise alarm bells from audiophiles who understand speakers.
Fortunately, going onto Chane's website, they have real info on the crossover and it sounds like they know what they are doing.
dicynodontChane, and Jon Lane, are the real deal. Jon is all over the usual audio insider forums and answers questions openly. We are a long time customer of his excellent QPR products.
I wasn’t sure what that middle component was, haha 😅
I believe, in MMO Games, they call that “Min-Maxing!” But before you get a good speaker amp, try and make sure to seal the drafts down there first 😉
