This new variant of the renowned T50RP MKIII is a collaboration between Fostex and Dekoni, a company well loved on Massdrop for its excellent line of headphone pads. Done in a distinctive light blue, these headphones feature Fostex’s proprietary planar-magnetic drivers and come installed with Dekoni’s Elite Hybrid ear pads Read More
I've tried these with several class-A amps and a tube amp, and IMHO they actually sound best plugged straight into my RME ADI-2 DAC FS
Note: these are some of the most power hungry headphones I've used, so be sure you can properly power them!
These have also become my new favorite headphones for listening to music like Disturbed/Bush/Godsmack - the sound signature and overall feeling is perfect for Rock (and also some Trance as well!)
These are *NOT* serious audiophile "clean" headphones, these are FUN
I brought these out of interest for planar technology to compare with what I had. While these are good for voice there are not as good for the music. They are comfortable you can wear them for a long period without fatigue, they isolate you quite well from the outside but the sound quality is not as good as what you will get with the HE4xx for planar or other traditional HD6xx the Fostex are all around less defined and muddy. I'm not going to use them too much I've better headphone here.
Listening on a Topping DX7s.
Ok, the deal is not worth it any longer, it came with out extra pads and the packing is crappy. You're better off getting the HE4xx for $160 then this deal for $200.
What's bad from drops side:
To my knowledge Drop added the note about the extra pads not being included after I ordered them and when they got shipped.
Since the dekoni packing is already crap drop could at least have added some buffing, both packing was in pretty bad shape.
Since I ordered this together with the 789 directly from stock they could have shipped it together, it would have impacted nature less, saved me €13 extra custom handling cost and an extra trip to the post office... there was only 3 days in between.
So pretty disappointed about the service and offered value for money.
So I got these a while back, and I've been using them, because my HE-4XX broke. These headphones sound good and are a good value, but I personally prefer my HE-4XX's. But, since all audio is subjective, maybe you will like these more. I am pushing these through a THX AAA 789 and the Airist R-2R DAC (Awesome Combo I might add :p). I do wish these were balanced, but I'm pretty sure you can buy a custom cable, but last time I looked, it was pretty pricey, so I didn't get it this time, like I did for my HE-4XX's. I think you will enjoy them regardless, so you can't go wrong.
