The velours are a swing and a miss imo. I feel like the large soundstage that made this headphone so cool to listen to in the first place is gone. Now it feels like I don't have much reason to be wearing these headphones at all, also they are so thick it makes the light clamping force more tight on your head (They don't compress at all when you put them on, maybe they need to be worn in?). Mostly though, I just feel a lack of air, and I think just looking at the pads once they are attached shows my issue with these, the very edges of the cups around the driver are tucked away so any sound that reacts with that area of the cups will have to fight to get through to your ear beyond the large Dekoni Pads. I'll probably be returning these, Sibilance was mostly unchanged for me as well (At least with my tattered old pads the sibilance has an air and purpose). Piano sounds boomy, that was my main issue with the Sheepskin pads as well, it's not as bad as those, but still unacceptable considering it wasn't an issue before.

Just got my velour pads. Has anyone else had trouble clipping them in?
They don't seem to go in at all, the old pads are no problem.

I see, I'm glad i ordered a tube hybrid amp then. My pre-owned hd700s pads are so old (and now the stitching came undone!) that I'm sure the sound will still improve in my experience. Thanks!

HelpbotOne of my original pad covers on the HD 700 had come loose as well, with the foam peaking out. I have Elite Hybrids on my HD 800 set, Both sets are very comfortable. This is my tube buffer below Audio Horizons Tube Buffer TB 5.1.1.

I wanted to add an addendum to my post with the measurements. While looking at the measurements alone you see the peak on the high end is still there. What you don't see is how the changes in the mid range and low end can help to mask the higher frequencies. The way the system takes a measurement is it "plays" every frequency between 10hz and 24000hz in 511 individual increments and measures each frequency independently of one another so you actually don't see the interaction of one frequency with another. Generally speaking, lower frequencies tend to mask higher ones.
In conclusion, I need to maybe make a pink noise measurement to accurately see the frequency interaction. What you see in my last post is the straight point source raw data.
I will say, to my ears, the high end peak people don't like is lessened or at least, not as noticeable, due to the other changes the pads incurs.

tdkocenI agree, take the recent Campfire Audio Andromeda S for example. The measurements show the treble response has not changed over the original Andromeda but many people perceive less treble due to the new, more prominent mid driver.
I do feel it's helpful if you could point people to a pad that lessens the perceived treble spike the most.

Well i'd like feedback from anyone who bought them once they get time to try them out, i was looking forward to these hoping it would help tame the treble spike but according to their graphs it actually worsens it which defeats the purpose i wanted them for. Oh well suppose ill take a gamble and try out the modhouseaudio mod that seems to be hit and miss.

I realize I'm being a bit unfair when it comes to Piano.. it does get boomy with stock pads in the lower notes. I didn't like the Dekoni Velour more than Stock, I liked the Sheepskin but the bass could get quite a bit more bloated to me. I've only been listening for a couple hours, I can't say that I found the Dekoni Velour pads to be comfortable though, there was a very obvious pressure on my head which made them less comfortable which irked me a lot. I ordered a fresh set of Sennheiser pads from Amazon (which come in handy if i just sell these headphones XD). I won't be hasty, I will keep trying them until I meet the return date.

HelpbotWell one of my gripes with the 700 was the fact that there wasnt enough clamping force as it wobbled too much on my head. These pads seem to reduce that to a lot better state for me. As someone who wears glasses too. Almost all my headphones usually hurt after awhile but these like the stock pads dont bother me. I do think that the original pads are more accurate but I find the dakoni to give it a warmer and sound that is often welcomed if you just want to relax. It's just my opinion, nor am I professional analyst haha.
