a_manumohanBought balanced cables to run from my dac to the 789 from blue jeans cable. Bought the SMSL SU-8 dac and fanmusic balanced headphone cables for my 58X and HD650s from massdrop. Considered buying Periapt cables as well, but I figure i'll wait and see how I like this setup first. I have a burson headphone amp that i love, but it's not balanced. The 789 is going to have to really wow me to take its place. Eager to see if the 789 lives up to the hype.
theupandcomingThanks mate. SU-8 has the ES9038Q2M chip right? do you know any balanced DACs with ES9038PRO? or ES9028PRO? I know Audio GD makes them. But those are a bit too expensive and chunky.
a_manumohanStay away from audio-gd like the plague if you can for future purchases, many of their devices measure horribly, and they have been caught faking specs.
Also, don’t fixated on chipsets so much, I’d wager my life no one could ever tell the difference between the two ESS chips you’re comparing.
a_manumohanWhat is it about the chip in the SU-8 that you dislike? My THX 789 showed up today and I have been listening through some of my favorite albums on it and I can't find any fault with the amp or the DAC.
theupandcomingWhat is it that any of us audiophiles dislike? I'm sure a human ear can't pick up the difference .lol. This is just for fun, satisfaction, boasting rights :D
JJayJJI would love a fact check on that stat there.. just for my own knowledge, i have not heard that before. @theupandcoming keep in mind, the THX 789 is not an amp that is balanced through through amp, and that the main perk to running balanced 99% of the time is that it has more power. Neither of the cans you mentions can even run the SE end at 100% volume for more then 15 minutes before they blow up. If you want me to get more in-depth on the perks of balanced or the amount of power you can take i will gladly elaborate.
jm090Official spec page: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/dac/NFB-2/NFB2EN.htmThird party review: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/dac/NFB-2/NFB2EN.htm
And that’s just their SNR that was faked, their spec sheet is just that, and power output isn’t precisely to the 2.5v spec either, just a hair short but not the end of the world of course. It’s just that, if these are the only two specs you publish, you would think it would be correct.
But of course not it seems. Also for the price they’re charging, they’re borderline insane.
jm090I’m just a little confused on the last sentence. Did you mean you were confused as to why you thought any of Amir’s reviews were valid (“good”), or were you confused into why you thought any of Audio-gd products were good?
