I bought a Hooligan (the beanie) the day after they we released. Got mine back in January of 2018. I have a few pictures and video of me wearing it. I have worn my Hooligan pretty much every day since I got it, pretty much always at night, and often times during the day (its always cold in my house). Actually wearing it right now. I have been a huge BRG Beanie fan for years, but the extra ear coverage of the Hooligan can be really really nice! I have really been wanting to try one of the Hoodlum. I wanted to go with the Graphite 7D for both inner and outer fabric. That option is not available here on MD, which is a bummer. To buy it directly from EE that option is $67.50. The price for me here on Massdrop for the Charcoal 10d is $57.53. So, a $9.97 difference to get the lighter weight (by 0.1 ounce) fabric. Meh, probably not worth it, so, might pick it up here on Massdrop!

abelaIn the video it looks as though there is space between your ear and the ear flap. Is the flap snug enough to keep your ear warm and the wind out?

Harvey12Hey Harvey. When it comes to covering my ears, yeah, it is sized good to cover them. Guessing that will be dependant on the size of your noggin and if you have a taller than normal head, it could maybe not fix/work. Who knows. As for the flaps being snug, yeah, they are. I was worried about this myself. While they are not stiff, they certainly do stay in place pretty dang well. As for the flaps keeping the wind out, I would say they do a good enough job. The fabric itself it, of course, not all that wind proof compared to say, Polartec Windbloc, which is really awesome (got a beanie made with that stuff, freaking love it for sub freezing adventures), but the fabric is good enough to handle most day to day weather.
Living in cold as heck NYC I could use something along these lines. The hoodlum could use a picture with a model. I really cannot grok what is going on with that. Though I am thinking it might be just the thing for those days when a hat and scarf still leave parts of your neck open to icy stabs of cold air. Also, hooligan and hoodlum? Kind of bad choices for product names unless you are marketing to suburban skater kids. Can't imagine most urban professionals that can drop $50+ on a winter hat being very enthusiastic about these names.

I've had a hoodlum for about 2 years. It definitely makes a big difference at night with my quilt, covering my head, neck and face. I find it to be on the warm to almost too warm spectrum. Three snaps on the neck provide great coverage and if I get warm I just open one or two of the snaps. Flip the shock cord over the back, adjust the tension and pull it down over your eyes - it stays put and no need for an additional eye mask to keep the light out. If you didn't bring anything else to wear with a hood it's great to wear at rest stops and around camp. It's definitely not a must have but makes trail life more pleasant for a small amount of added weight. Now I want to buy a Hooligan too!

Does this make you enlightened? I heard it can take decades to become enlightened.

also yeah, this would be good for NYC, not sure about the hoodlum either, but I'll try one of each because EE has a great reputation in the hammock camping community. I'm Upstate and in addition to hammock camping year round, I also cyclocommute year round, and I think the Hooligan might be perfect to wear under my bike helmet keeping my ears and back of neck warm without obscuring my peripheral vision. I prefer down, but down only works uncompressed and dry, which it won't ever be either under a bike helmet.

Please add snaps to the hooligan so the ear covers can be snapped up and out of the way when it's warmer or when you need to hear better.
Is there a hat like this that has a leather outer shell? I think that would look awesome.

I like the look of the hooligan, but can not tell without pictures how it will sit on a person's head (eg - once on, will the front brim be too low on the forehead, and interfere with your vision). Front and back views of a model wearing it (as well as the hoodlum) would be helpful...
