Assembled and tested at Heil Sound's facility in Illinois, the Heil PR40 is a full-range microphone with crystal clear sound reproduction. It features a unique copper-wound voice coil made with a mixture of iron, boron, and a neodymium magnet, which creates a magnetic field 10 times stronger than traditional cardioid microphones. With a frequency response of 28Hz to 18kHz, an impedance of 600 Ohms, and minimal distortion, it accurately represents sounds as they were meant to be heard whether vocals, bass instruments, guitar cabs, or kick drums.
To reduce breath blasts and popping, the microphone is equipped with two metal screens—the inner screen has small openings, while the outer has larger openings, providing a buffer zone for the diaphragm. Its end fire cardioid polar pattern helps keeps extraneous noise at bay, too. The large 1.5-inch capsule is also mounted in a sorbothane shock absorber to decouple it from the steel body.
