Might this be a good solution for a filmmaker trying to hear their 5.1 post-production sound in premiere before okaying it with the post production sound house? Right now I can only hear it in stereo before okaying it and hearing it at festival screenings ... or paying for a theater screening to allow me to hear it in surround...
I tried hooking up a standard surround setup to my Mac Pro, but was completely unable to make it work.

DarvsThis would work just fine for that as long as you have a 5.1 output, either from a pci card or a usb sound card. Look for one with analog outputs not optical.
