Since its release, the IMR R1 IEM has received a lot of praise for its top-notch sound and unique design. At its heart is the company’s custom hybrid driver unit, which combines a high-res ceramic driver and a 13-millimeter beryllium dynamic driver with powerful neodymium motors. The result: a huge soundstage, precise instrument placement, and a frequency range (14 to 40,000 Hz) that covers the entire audible range of audio. And thanks to the R1’s switchable open-and-close port, you can change the staging of the IEM to make it more sealed off or open to the outside world. Want even more customization? IMR has you covered. Your R1 will come with five tuning filters that’ll allow you to alter the bass, treble, and midrange to your preferences.
The Headphone List says, "The bass, the clarity, the endless highs… it’s a showstopper. With the vents open, it sounds all the more spacious and airy, like a good open-back set of cans. I recommend a custom cable, just to avoid the demented antagonism of those stock cords. Other than that, simply be sure you aren’t overly sensitive to bright sounds, and I’d say the R1 is for you. It’s so good you may quit the hobby forever and call it a day."
One Head-Fi reviewer writes, "IMR wasn’t trying add unique coloring on the R1, but they rather stuck with the basics and nailed it. IMR R1 aims to have maximum wideness for both frequency response / staging, and I'd say they accomplished it very nicely. I can consider R1 to possibly have one of the widest soundstage among flagship IEMs available to the market, and that’s a good start for IMR. I’ll be glad to keep my eyes on how IMR shapes out their products in the future."
