Tupperware won’t last forever—unless it’s from Kilner. Made using the company’s tried-and-true glass recipe (which has remained the same since the 1840s), these storage containers are strong and classic looking Read More
I worry about the longevity of the seals. But I have no issue with hand washing them and I haven't yet had them leak. The glass itself seems quite hardy and the sealing mechanism works very well. Time will tell on the seals.
We've been using the long-use disposable plastic containers, and I thought it was time for a nice, permanent, and ceramic/glass replacement for them.
These came along at the right time. They are well made and nicely shaped. They are heavy borosilicate glass, and should last a good white. If the company is in the business of serving people who can (vegetables etc.), they should understand longevity. We'll see. Only time will tell about the survivability of the glued-on retainer clips.
The three issues I have regard the silicone-esque seals, and are the bits that knock it down from 5 stars
The seals have to be handwashed. I am surprised that they couldn't come up with any version of these that can't go in the dishwasher. Since I have lots of silicone goods that are dishwasher safe, and high-heat survivable to boot, it's very confusing
The seals had to be razor-blade removed from the glass at first. The instructions say to soak in hot, soapy water to make it easier to remove them. That did no good. After multiple soaking sessions, and multiple attempts to tug them off, I had to resort to using multiple brand new razor blades to get them off. One of the seals tore- not through, just within its body- in the process. On all but one container, I have razor-thin 'peels' and had to scrape leftover material from the containers. Which brings up:
I can't find replacements for the seals. There aren't any listed on the manufacturer site.
I still like them, and am going to buy some larger ones. But I'm going to research seal removal before they get here.
They're solid and heavy, but don't stack so take a lot of space. Also, the metal in the lids means you can't microwave with the tops. I prefer the Snapware glass.
At first I was impressed with the quality, but quickly noticed that two of the seals were warped and didn’t proved leak-proof of liquids. That was disappointing. I will need to be cognizant to not put liquids in those two containers.
