Folks: This is the fourth or fifth item that shows up in a ‘Drop’ and is immediately sold out. Why? Well in light of Drop’s imminent shut-down of the communities that mattered (EDC, watches, knives, etc) its pretty clear - they are having a fire sale, maybe with no sale prices. “Hey, we got 17 of those Lamy pens from 2018 left - let’s run the same copy as we did three years ago and shove ‘em out the door at the same price as when they were new. The suckers won’t know the difference.” The disrespect for the consumers and the communities continues.

PhilTheKnifeGuyIve noticed this in a few items listed recently. I, very similarly to yourself, thought, “wow, so they must’ve finally remembered where they put the key to warehouse closet 114c”. Obviously i’m paraphrasing for clarity. My exact thoughts were probably closer to, “‘wow, so they must’ve finally remembered where they put the key to....that closet. Cause they.. like had the key and stored a small number of goods that were to be shipped. Then they gave the key to the intern for safe keeping..’ 4 years later to the day. *drop employee 1674837654r: -‘hey guys, i think im finally getting my -moderate- luck back. i stepped in some dog sh*t while wearing my new airwalks while walking to work. This wasnt a big deal cause it happens often, but when i reached down to pull it off with my bare hands i found a key! I wonder where it goes.’” i guess what im trying to say is that i agree with you

I have bought a few things from Massdrop, but now you’re “Drop” and have eliminated most of the communities, there is little of interest to me. This pen was a welcome change, however it sold through before I could even consider it. FYI—I enjoyed Massdrop because of the communities—even though I did not quilt or need another knife, I learned from other Massdrop folks about their products, interests, experiences.... Drop—you have completely destroyed everything—the site, choice of products and most important, the communities. I have not posted in over a year, this is my last. Massdrop/Drop folks—I have no bone to pick with you and wish you well.

How is it this sold out if I just got the email? It seems like this is just bait to open up the email. I’m sure there is Crossover, but I don’t give a fuck about keyboards, headphones and key caps. I came here for the knives, edc gear and pens. please stop the bait and switch drop.

RonricoDitto that!!!
If you were going to get your first fountain pen, and it would likely be your only one, would you get this pen or the Lamy 2000?
I can't afford to consider anything more expensive, so I can't consider any "but this $800 pen would be my choice if I could only have one" offers, but if there is some amazing pen other than these for around the same price I will take them into consideration.
Thanks for your input! I've decided to get the 2000 over this one, but now Massdrop no longer offers the 2k in anything but the unaffordable (for me) steel version (and at that, rarely).
Ever since Massdrop brought the steel Lamy 2000 to their platform, the makrolon version hasn't been seen here. Guess I'll have to pay the extra $20 (given my preference in nib size) and get it from Amazon.

TipsyMacScotchslurpenApparently the finish on the Lamy Studios is prone to chipping but the Palladium may be the exception. The gold nib on the Studio is beautiful to write with and has a bit more flex than the hooded 2000, however I'd still probably get the 2000 over this one.

Seriously? The one thing from you that I have been interested in for over a year and it is sold-through before I even get a shot at one... Site just gets worse and worse.

I will again endorse what I said about this last drop, this is an amazing pen at a very good price. However, at this moment, you can get it in the limited edition Racing Green from Nibsmith with the gold nib (instead of the steel nib that color normally comes with) for under $100.

brandoncahallYeah, I think the deal is over. In that case, this drop is back to being a really great deal unless you really want it in a special color.

Be aware this pen has no warranty which begs the question of its source. I (unfortunately) purchased one and the gold EF nib was the worst thing I ever used - super scratchy in all directions - even EF SS nibs from Lamy are far better than this one - I have 2 other identical gold nibs added to Safari pens purchased as nib only from an online authorized dealer - those nibs write like butter right out of the box - which is why my expectation was that this pen/nib would write the same - just insane....very, very disappointed given the price of this pen. Regarding the pen itself, it is impossible to hold the pen properly as the barrel has the sloping design that makes the pen get away from your hands and gets very tiring after a couple of minutes to grip hard - if you will do anything other than sign a document, or you are a pen collector, you should look for something else. I could have saved a lot of money by simply buying a third gold nib online instead of purchasing this pen. I hope everyone that bought it is happy with their purchases!

BumblebeeYeah. A few reviews discuss the design feature that may make the pen difficult to hold even in the palladium finish. I’m on the fence.

Curious that this is (was?) even available given that Drop dropped fountain pens a couple years ago. what is really going on here?

You can get this for slightly less at Endlesspens for EF, F, and M, but it's a preorder meaning it won't ship for a while which doesn't save you any time vs Massdrop, though you never know with Drop and neither do they sometimes. Endlesspen also had other nib sizes for more.
