I want to clear up some confusion about these keyboards.
Every keyboard available in this drop is a Leopold FC660M, though the Mint version is a special variant that has Varmilo Front-Printed Mint keycaps. I've posted some pictures of the keyboard from the back so you can see what the Mint one looks like underneath. None of the other keycap options have the word Varmilo on the spacebar.
Varmilo makes some incredible things and I'm glad you all are interested in their brand. I'll look into whether we can get some of their wireless keyboards on Massdrop in the future.
jasonmitIt would be rather difficult to find a replacement (of any color) as the Leopold uses non-standard stem spacing for the spacebar of the FC660M.
AndrewLekashmanCan we get the mint keys through Massdrop? Are there any other colored keys available? I tried translating the site page but Google translate was no help
AndrewLekashmanThank you for the information. I really wanted to know if it where only caps.
A Massdrop for the Varmillo VB660M would be interesting, LED and Bluetooth on a Leopold 660 layout, that would make a nice board to have.
AndrewLekashmanAw man, I wish the mint version was the one shown in the description!
Edit: Nevermind, I just didn't realise the 'Varmilo' was hidden on the photo on the description.
AndrewLekashmanHi Andrew. Do you think you could request our order not be printed with the Varmilo branding on the spacebar? I don't think there's anyone who wants to advertise an obscure brand in Comic Sans. It really ruins the aesthetic. I appreciate your consideration.
daversionI think everyone agrees that the Varmillo branding on the Spacebar is ugly and no one wants it. Ideally, Andrew can work some Massdrop Magic (~230 units sold = buyer power leverage?), but I'm not counting on it. Let's brainstorm some workarounds, in case we're stuck with a spacebar with ugly front printed comic sans:
- Turn the spacebar around; since the spacebar is front printed, simply turning the spacebar around will hide the ugly branding (unless you look at the keyboard from behind). This isn't a bad option, as many people prefer flipped spacebars anyway as that feels better on the thumb(s).
- Sand away the branding - since these keycaps' legends are laser etched (ie, burned in), I don't think it will require much sanding at all to get rid of the outermost layer of the key to get rid of the lettering. Again, since these keys are front printed, there's no need to worry about losing texture on the keys.
- Paint???! it over with a similar shade of mint?
