Bad timing. Orders for the Model X drop are supposed to ship today. Highly doubt I'll get them before this drop ends. ~edit - Just received an email stating shipping on the Model X is delayed. Will have to decide if I want to cancel & jump on this drop or stick with the Model X. On a related note, bring back the marble faceplate options.

axestrataEnded up with both the Model X & Aether 😬. Long story short, I’m selling the Model X. They’re both great IEMs, but the Aether R is an upgrade over the Model X. Stage is expanded & resolution is increased. Model X with switch down is fairly neutral & balanced with quick bass decay. Flip the switch up & you get a healthy boost of energy down low without bleeding into the other frequencies. The Aether R meanwhile, seems to take the Model X (with switch up) and build on it. The boost on the Model X is more noticeable, whereas the Aether R already has a fair amount of bass; flipping the switch up dials in more sub-bass. You could say the switch on the Model X is more effective, it’s almost like having two IEMs in one; I just found that I always preferred it with the switch up. ;-) I actually sold my Sony IER-M9 not too long ago; I think the Model X is worth considering for anyone looking at the M9.

rantngThanks for that rundown - super helpful! I was wondering if the Aether was worth the upgrade...Did you already sell the Model X?

axestrataHaven’t sold the Model X yet. After taxes, I ended up paying about $200 more for the Aether. For me, it was worth the upgrade, but that is about a 20% jump in price. Can’t say if the Aether is 20% “better” than the Model X, but anyone in this hobby will tell you, after a point it is a diminishing returns to scale.
