Product Description
With the Aether R Universal-Fit IEM, Lime Ears had a clear goal: to create earphones that sound like an acoustically treated sound system, subwoofer included. Driving the Aether R sound are six balanced armatures per channel, two of which are engineered to act as subwoofers, adding body to the lowest frequencies Read More

Hit me up at my username at gmail if you’re interested in the Nebula faceplate version pictured for a discount. I’ve put maybe 10 hours on it; I just have too many IEMs.

So if I had waited 2 months and not gotten in on the previous drop I could have gotten a free quality upgrade cable. The Aether is still a great IEM, but my days as an early supporter are over. I miss Massdrop.

scottluie 800s? Better. HD 800S is over ear. Obviously you can get better details and soundstage but it won’t fit in your pocket.

I had the chance to listen the AETHER R, on a French tour and I must say these are great iem. Balanced, natural with a Touch of warm and dynamic ...according to my ears ;-) Some more French review here http://tellementnomade.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26757

Bad timing. Orders for the Model X drop are supposed to ship today. Highly doubt I'll get them before this drop ends. ~edit - Just received an email stating shipping on the Model X is delayed. Will have to decide if I want to cancel & jump on this drop or stick with the Model X. On a related note, bring back the marble faceplate options.

Thanks for that rundown - super helpful! I was wondering if the Aether was worth the upgrade...Did you already sell the Model X?

axestrataHaven’t sold the Model X yet. After taxes, I ended up paying about $200 more for the Aether. For me, it was worth the upgrade, but that is about a 20% jump in price. Can’t say if the Aether is 20% “better” than the Model X, but anyone in this hobby will tell you, after a point it is a diminishing returns to scale.

Stunningly beautiful. Not a hope of me dropping $1000, though. Crazy expensive.

This is pretty dang cool. I liked the original Aether quite a lot when I heard it at Canjam. A universal with the accessories this comes with is quite a good deal. This is the first IEM I've seen to come stock with Spinfit, Symbio W and Comply. Comply isn't so good, but it's got a following. The other two are some of the best tips out there on a sound quality basis. Too bad Drop hasn't seen fit to set up EU distribution yet. C'mon guys, there are plenty of fulfillment companies that can do this for you.

I'm a Tyll fan but Comply is not anywhere close to neutral. My observations on Comply sound are pretty universal. Unless you are jamming Comply tips way the heck up into your ears like a triple flange, insertion depth will cause negligible difference in sound with them if you have a proper seal. The round ones are not much shorter than the Isolation tips. I've tried isolation series and the TSX type with and without filters. The foam changes the sound, the wax guard, not really. Totally agree that all tips have an effect on sound, I just don't like the Comply house sound with most pairings. I'm curious about Symbio foam only tips, but haven't tried them yet.

micahjroseThe foam tips just don't work for you, that's all. In my case, the foam tips are the best choice, and when paired with the Aether R, they radically improve the quality of high frequencies. Each has its own ear anatomy. I have not seen anything more convenient than Comply tips.

Will this be coming back? Any reports from participants of the last drop?
