Product Description
With the Aether R Universal-Fit IEM, Lime Ears had a clear goal: to create earphones that sound like an acoustically treated sound system, subwoofer included. Driving the Aether R sound are six balanced armatures per channel, two of which are engineered to act as subwoofers, adding body to the lowest frequencies Read More

Bad timing. Orders for the Model X drop are supposed to ship today. Highly doubt I'll get them before this drop ends. ~edit - Just received an email stating shipping on the Model X is delayed. Will have to decide if I want to cancel & jump on this drop or stick with the Model X. On a related note, bring back the marble faceplate options.

Stunningly beautiful. Not a hope of me dropping $1000, though. Crazy expensive.

This is pretty dang cool. I liked the original Aether quite a lot when I heard it at Canjam. A universal with the accessories this comes with is quite a good deal. This is the first IEM I've seen to come stock with Spinfit, Symbio W and Comply. Comply isn't so good, but it's got a following. The other two are some of the best tips out there on a sound quality basis. Too bad Drop hasn't seen fit to set up EU distribution yet. C'mon guys, there are plenty of fulfillment companies that can do this for you.

They do because of their different lengths. All the comfort tips are short and stubby while the other is a thinner and a good bit longer. That does make a big difference. Same with using a silicone tip vs a triple flange - insertion depth makes noticeable changes. Tyll has also done measurements on this and came to the conclusion they have a negligible effect on FR. A lot has to do with people putting them in their ears wrong and smooshing the foam over the sound tube. Unless you're using one of the sport foams, they shouldn't have any effect on FR when you select a compatible tip. But hey, to each their own. The Dekoni were OK, they weren't as soft and left my ears a bit more sore and scratchy vs all my others. Price is good on them, though.

I'm a Tyll fan but Comply is not anywhere close to neutral. My observations on Comply sound are pretty universal. Unless you are jamming Comply tips way the heck up into your ears like a triple flange, insertion depth will cause negligible difference in sound with them if you have a proper seal. The round ones are not much shorter than the Isolation tips. I've tried isolation series and the TSX type with and without filters. The foam changes the sound, the wax guard, not really. Totally agree that all tips have an effect on sound, I just don't like the Comply house sound with most pairings. I'm curious about Symbio foam only tips, but haven't tried them yet.

OOh, @LimeEars on Drop. I have read a few good comments online, but never tried them myself (and somehow I always missed seeing a full review). The nebula shells (and marble!) are very attractive looking. Maybe we’ll start seeing more reviews now!

I particularly liked the white marble... the only CIEMs I had made so far, I got customized with white zebra wood, so I’m a fan of the look! A bit more neutral of a look while wearing them, as well.

Seriously? $1099 for IEM using 2-pin connectors? Hard NOPE. These are pleasant looking, may sound nice, and have a great set of accessories, but I'd rather spend that money on custom IEM with MMCX or put it towards something which will last longer... like a pair of Martin Logan ElectroMotion ESL.

I'll add that I like the JH Audio screw down connectors with the bass adjustment. The only problem is that it becomes prohibitively expensive to have multiple cables - but the Moon Audio versions are good and some of the newer Toxic cables are extremely supple.

Unique Melody uses the 4-pin connector on their flagships but differently (dual tone cable). I find that the connector can unscrew itself over time. I've had a few times where I almost lost an earpiece on the Mason V3. To prevent this from happening now, I always check the screw tightness before wearing them.

Suggest lime ears and massdrop start at a much reduced promo price to get a rep and strong following like noble. To crack this market you need to build brand and sacrifice some margin at least in the short term to build community reviews. 1.1k too much.

Sure, I'll keep it in mind. I've met discussions including graphs about Solaris for now, which is UIEM only. But, as @jaydunndiddit mentioned, with the current state and amount of measurements, maybe it's too early to draw sudden conclusions (I didn't really dig into the subject, however CFA certainly tarnished its reputation in the light of recent events).

I can’t really make a fair judgement on CFA: the sharp angles on their shells made them uncomfortable for me to wear, so I haven’t done research on them apart from seeing so many people compare them to the Noble Kaiser, and say favorable things about both while the Andromeda cost less (and I love the Andromeda green). The nebula color for this drop looks really cool, and the universal form factor/smooth body has me interested enough to look into reviews and the tech used a bit more. Headfonia’s review looks promising.

Actually that is 6th best as voted by the readers so that might be even more of a recommendation.
