Product Description
Revised based on community feedback, this version of the Massdrop Cruz Leather Weekender maintains all the same great features of the original—but it’s now slimmer, refined, and more functional. Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in this drop! In the Men's Accessory polls on Massdrop, we see tons of votes/requests for leather weekender bags. Sadly, they're usually very expensive, and tend to lack a complete feature set for what you need on a multi-day trip.
Working with contract manufacturing partners in Asia, we developed the Cruz, a full grain leather weekender bag built to last with all the features you need for comfortable travels.
Some of the most exciting features are:
The main compartment opens with a full side flap, this means you can pack your bag intelligently (playing tetris is much harder when you can only look from the top down) and access items at any layer of your possessions with ease.
The side compartment (note how the top of that compartment is visibly shorter than the main compartment, so you know which side to leave facing out in the overhead bin) has a couple important sections. It has a laptop sleeve that'll hold up to a 15" Macbook Pro or Dell XPS 15 (15" gaming laptops, aside from the Razer Blade, won't fit). The horizontal leather pocket (it will have depth in the production units, the samples used for pictures show it as flat) is specifically designed for your laptop power supply or kindle. The vertical pocket is designed for phones, audiophile DAPs, and portable gaming devices.
On either end of the bag, you'll see compartments designed for shoe storage. These can also be used for safe headphone storage.
The bag is fully lined in durable cloth, designed to stay together over years of use.
Finally, the included strap is full grain leather as well.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Cruz!

WillWill, I missed the drop. No way to get on board now? Desire a black bag for a gift. Charles Reilly

DrummingManA bit negative, aren't you? Please be respectful. Maybe you can find a friend in the US who would ship it to you. But wait, because you assume the grips aren't leather, it's not something you're interested in anyway.

Hey Folks, Thanks for your patience and continued interest in the Cruz! Here are answers to some of the most asked questions in this thread: What is the Cruz's warranty? The Cruz is warrantied by Massdrop for three years. Between the full grain leather and the YKK hardware, we expect very few warranty claims. How many pieces of leather is the Cruz made of? I'm generally confused about this question. The Cruz is made of many panels of leather, all visible in the provided pictures. Each Cruz takes about 20sqft of hide to produce. How is the leather in the Cruz tanned? The Cruz is made of Full Grain, Chromium Tanned, Aniline dyed leather. Is the Cruz water proof? No, the Cruz is not water proof. Being Chromium Tanned and Aniline Dyed, the Cruz handles rain and wetness better than most leathers. Rain won't ruin your Cruz and the contents will stay dry. Will everything stay dry if you throw the Cruz in a pool? Absolutely not.
Will there be other colors? At this point we have no plans to release the Cruz in more colors.
How big are the shoe compartments? We've tested them with size 12 Allen Edmonds Park Avenue and those fit comfortably. I'll post a measurement when I'm in the office tomorrow.

Noticeably absent: carrying handles material composition! I suspect this means no leather grips! Too bad, almost a great offer!
DrummingManHandles and strap are full grain leather like the rest of the exterior of the bag.

DrummingManYou can find the details of any drop by reading the description page (link in the top right). On this drop, you can see that "Adjustable, removable full-grain leather strap with soft pad" is written in the details section.

Damn, leather is heavy! 7kg is what you can safely pack your carry-on luggage to in order to comply with all airlines. This looks so well thought out/made but at 3.5kg, there goes half your baggage allowance before you've even packed :(

Same here, as long as it fits in the overhead bin you're fine. They usually have a cage thing of the same dimensions as the overhead bin you can test it with.

Australia. Our major airlines Qantas, Virgin, JetStar, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific all list 7KG as the limit.
Many years ago they weighed my 3KG excess carry-on and very justifiably charged me $80 on the spot to have the bag checked-in. In January this year, they actually weighed every person's luggage and gave them a sticker/label if it was kosher weight. During boarding they would then weigh any bags without the label.

The black and brown versions show the end compartment zippers in different places: black near the end of he bag, brown near the middle pocket zippers. It that truly the case?

I suppose we should assume the samples are accurate. If not, massdrop may have a number of returns on their hands. Seems preferable to clarify beforehand. It's also making it difficult to decide which color to choose. They do appear to be really nice items regardless though!

Want to share that this question has finally been answered. It has now been stated that the zippers on both color options will be centered to match the brown sample. This is what I was hoping for when I chose to purchase blindly. I hope neither of you will be disappointed in this change.

Hi Everyone, The Massdrop Cruz Leather Weekender is making its way through production! The first step in making this bag is producing the leather. To create this chromium tanned, aniline dyed leather, the tannery must complete a 20 step manufacturing process. We’re happy to report that the tanning process was a success, and the leather is now being delivered to our manufacturing partner. Check out these photos of the leather being cut and prepared for the weekender bag:
